You don’t know him. But he knows you.
Soon he would be able to touch her, to feel the warmth of her blood. And when the time came, nothing would stop him.
As D.C. Jennifer Knight investigates a routine stabbing in the quiet town of Haven, she is shocked at what seems like a personal message from beyond the grave.
When more bodies are found, Jennifer is convinced the killings are somehow linked. What she discovers is more chilling than she could possibly imagine. The murders mirror those of the notorious Grim Reaper – from over twenty years ago. A killer her mother helped convict.
Jennifer can no longer ignore the personal connection. Is there a copycat killer at work? Was the wrong man convicted? Or is there something more sinister at play …
With her mother’s terrifying legacy spiralling out of control, Jennifer must look into her own dark past in a fight not only to stop a killer – but to save herself and those she loves.
Read on for my thoughts on Don’t Turn Around. No true spoilers, promise.
There are more things in heaven and earth, Horatio, Than are dreamt of in your philosophy.
– Hamlet (1.5.167-8), Hamlet to Horatio
As I have mentioned before, Paranormal is my first reading love. I have no trouble dispensing with disbelief and simply accepting what I cannot explain. While I have never, to my knowledge, come in contact with anything otherworldly – there is that intuition, that feeling of something wrong – and having that “feeling” being proven correct. To paraphrase – I accept that there is more in heaven and earth than I will ever understand.
You have the basic concept from the cover blurb of Don’t Turn Around so I don’t need to tell you the story – you should read this story firsthand. What you will find within the pages is a gripping story that will keep you tied to your book or Kindle for hours, quickly turning pages to see what is coming at you next.
This novel is rich in police procedure details, a time frame that jumps from the current events to the recent past events that connect to each other, a cast of characters that you will like and loathe, and a constant sense of being pulled deeper into the story the further you read.
Jennifer is a person you will root for. While she is at times obsessive in her habits, she is also determined to solve a case that her superiors do not see as important or relevant. This case is personal and it’s also life or death.
I was totally captivated by Don’t Turn Around. It is a story told by an author who knows police procedures and the otherworldly personally. This knowledge adds such a touch of realism throughout the novel. You will be drawn into the life of a woman who has demons to fight, and the truth to be discovered with courage and determination. At the ending you will be flipping pages quickly, not because you’ll want the story to end but because you will need to know what happens next. And what happens next is simply amazing.
I highly recommend Don’t Turn Around for anyone who enjoys a thrilling mystery, the unexpected, and just a really good story that will keep you focused until the final word… and then wish for more. Go pick this one up and simply enjoy.
*I received an e-ARC of Don’t Turn Around from the author, Caroline Mitchell who I thank very much, in exchange for an honest review. That does not change what I think of this novel.*
