American lass seeks brawny Scot…
As if being newly single isn’t brutal enough, Sloane Chatfield’s friends are getting obnoxious about setting her up. When Sloane insists she’s waiting for a certain sexy fictional Highlander to come along, her friends surprise her with a trip to Scotland to find her a new boyfriend. She’d rather have a root canal. But if she can find a Highland hunk to “break her heart” before her friends arrive…
In a remote Highland village, Galen Buchanan is struggling to keep the family pub afloat. Everything is falling apart, he’s running out of money, and now there’s an opinionated American lass parked at his best table, driving him mad. But then Sloane asks Galen to be her pretend Highland boyfriend…and offers him enough money to save the pub. It’s only for a few days, he figures. What’s the worst that could happen?
Read on for my thoughts on The Perfect Bargain. No true spoilers, promise.
“What’s the worst that could happen?” Those are words to tempt the fates – and are they ever tempted by The Perfect Bargain.
Sloane found out the hard way that men can be dogs – and not the cute fluffy kind either… no, the cruel, demeaning, walk away from the wedding plan kind of dog, ermmm man. Now her friends just won’t stop with the trying to set her up with a date thing. She doesn’t want a date, well – if someone dropped Braveheart in her lap she wouldn’t turn him away… wait, that’s perfect.
Galen is barely able to keep his family’s pub going. The place is falling down around his customer’s ears, money is something he hasn’t seen in a very long time and that attractive, opinionated American stalking his pup is driving him insane. But she’s offering cold hard cash to play at a pretend relationship for a few days, it could save his business if it doesn’t kill him (or her) first. And then he thought those dangers words… what’s the worst that could happen.
I enjoyed The Perfect Bargain very much, more actually than I first thought I would. Let me put this nicely – neither Sloane nor Galen were very nice people when we first run into them. And they held on to some of those traits throughout the story. Yet, as the story continues and the characters grew as well as changed their attitudes a bit the novel became more of a delightful, fun romp.
If you are a fan of gruff men in kilts, don’t mind a bit of a spoiled opinionated female, and believe that people can change their tune and their lives around then this is a good book match for you. I would recommend this novel for readers who can enjoy characters even when they aren’t behaving at their best, enjoys a good love story and has always wonders about kilts… this is one you’ll enjoy. Pick it up and indulge yourself.
