When Violet Murphy’s boss begs her to convince his dying mother that they’re getting married, the pretty wallflower finds that being trapped in a pretend relationship with a sexy playboy leaves her with two choices: kill the handsome Casanova…or fall in love with him.

A MODERN-DAY ROGUE
A smooth-talking negotiator, Jared Cassidy does multimillion-dollar deals for breakfast…and any number of women in between. What he can’t handle? His mother. And in a moment of insanity he told her he’s finally found a bride.

AND AN OLD-FASHIONED WALLFLOWER
More than anyone, romance-novel addict Violet Murphy knows where her rakish boss has been. That’s why she’s steered clear. But now, having accepted a proposal that’s only moderately less indecent than usual, she has two choices: Spend two steamy and lavishly paid weeks as the pretend fiancée of a playboy no woman has truly ever understood, or use the time in Palm Beach to kill the image and reveal the man. In doing the latter, she’ll find paradise, passion, and the promise of a future she’s only ever imagined.

Read on for my thoughts on Killing Casanova.  No true spoilers, promise.

Jared Cassidy has finally met his match – he simply doesn’t realize it yet, but he will.

Jared has no intention of settling down.  The past has taught him that love is a farce full of pain which he wants no part of ever again.  Yet, his mother’s wish for his happiness weighs heavy on his heart and in a stupid, blindsided moment he declares that he’s found the perfect woman.  In fact, he really has.  Right in front of him, his assistant who totally gets him but doesn’t seem to want him.  Violet is perfect for this scheme to bring his mother a promise of his settled future before the cancer that is ravaging her takes its final toll.

Violet should run as fast as she can from Jared’s scheme.  But she knows that she will help him, in spite of herself.  She wants the man Jared has buried beneath past emotional mistakes.  And if she can find the man and lose the womanizer forever – then the proposal that he offered in desperation can mean true happiness for everyone, especially Violet and Jared.

Killing Casanova was a fun, light romance.  Yes, it’s not a new theme but really, so what?  It is an entertaining romance where finally a man who refuses to believe in love for him comes to see that he is what is standing in his way to happiness.

Looking for a lighthearted romantic read?  Then pick up Killing Casanova and enjoy.  While this story is part of a series, it is possible to read it without the earlier stories.  Of course, you’ll get a more complete idea of some people mentioned if you’ve read the entire series so far, but there is nothing to take away from the current story.

*I received an e-ARC of Killing Casanova from the publisher and NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. That does not change what I think of this novel.*
