Nothing is what it seems in a glittering new fantasy by best-selling author Sarah Wynde
When a gorgeous guy demands Fen choose between getting shot or overdosing on drugs, she plunges into a sea of trouble. Although she’s rescued from her would-be killer by Luke, a teenage boy, and Kaio, his sexy older brother, escape won’t be so easy.
The protection the brothers provide simmers with unnerving undercurrents. They have secrets and Fen has questions. Who are they? How did they find her? What do they want with her? And why was she targeted for murder in the first place?
When Fen and Luke are forced to run for their lives, Luke spirits Fen down into an enchanting underwater city. But every enchantment has its dark edges. Caught in the tides of emotion, romance, and a plot to destroy humanity, Fen must look deep within herself to find the strength and courage she’ll need to stay afloat in this amazing new world.

Read on for my thoughts on A Lonely Magic,. No true spoilers, promise.
Wow. Just Wow.
My style of reviewing is to not give a summary, but to tell you why I did or didn’t love a particular novel and let you go decide your opinion for yourself. But, really – that’s going to be difficult because I just want to tell you the whole story right now… and I can’t. I just cannot. But I want to, does that count?
Fen hasn’t had an easy life. She’s been orphaned, in foster care, spent some time on the streets and did drugs. But she’s turned her life around. She has a steady job, a paycheck (not a great paycheck but one she earned honestly), a roof over her head and food in her belly. It’s a basic kind of life, but she fought for it honestly and it’s hers.
Everything Fen understands about life is going to change with one decision. She is about to be swept down the rabbit hole – and nothing is ever going to be the same basic life again.
We are not alone.
There is an ancient, underwater world beneath the seas that the land loving surface inhabitants of Earth have no clue exists. Complete with its own political structure, intrigue, commerce and lives, so many lives living under the sea. It’s magic.
Fen is dropped into this underwater world and begins to discover her own part in this world. And the rest is… simply amazing.
I so completely enjoyed A Lonely Magic. The world building is dramatic, the story is charming and the guys are sexy. What more could a girl want? A good story. And we got that covered as well. My only, only drawback was … cliffhanger ending. I personally, do not like cliffhanger endings. I don’t. In a series I am going to come back for the next book. The author does not have to hold out the final answers to one novel as the starting point of the next in order to get me to buy the series. But, that’s me… my opinion.
(My reason is simple. So many times great stories are forever left in a cliffhanger because the next book was never picked up – so my need for an ending for one book is deeply instilled in my reading preferences… again my opinion)
Cliffhanger ending aside – I would recommend A Lonely Magic without hesitation. I’d give it a 4 outta 5 on my rating scale and suggest that you look for this one. It’s been out for a while now, so it should be easy to find.
*I received an e-ARC of A Lonely Magic from the publisher and NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. That does not change what I think of this novel.*
