Cover Description:
Christmas. Good thing it only comes around one time a year. Joanna Bryne has gone far in her life. All the way from the backwoods of Maine to being a national TV news correspondent based out of New York City. When not on the road, her life is spent with boyfriend Will Currier, a man who could pass for a Calvin Klein model.
She seems to have it all. The perfect job, perfect home, perfect man. But all of that would become unsettled when she returns home for the holidays without Will, who was, as usual, strapped down with work.
Joanna returns to Maine to her overbearing family, all of whom are wondering where her longtime boyfriend is. After all, Joanna and Will have been dating for four years and they’ve yet to meet mysterious Will due to his inflexible schedule.
And into the picture comes an old boyfriend, Jackson Montagne, who moved back to Whiting Valley to raise his family in the recent years. With Jackson back in the picture, what Joanna thought to be her perfect life all of a sudden doesn’t seem so perfect anymore.
Read on for my thoughts on Mistletoe For Christmas. No true spoilers, promise.
Sometimes we leave home and go out into the world to find our “life”. What happens when that life was back home all the time?
Mistletoe For Christmas is a charming and realistic romance of two people who loved each others as teens. When Joanna headed off to the big city and her dream job of television journalism she left behind the boy she’d loved, Jackson. It hurt, but she learned to live with the pain and eventually got her shot as a top network reporter… and a boyfriend in the business. One for whom the business, the story, mattered more than the girlfriend, as he’d broken promise after promise to join her family for Christmas. This year was just like all the rest.
When Jackson turned up at her mother’s place one afternoon to collect his two kids, Joanna was reminded all over again of that first love – and discovered that it was still as strong today as it was then, maybe a bit older and wiser, but the feelings hadn’t gone away. Yet, now she had a job far away, a possible promotion and an absent boyfriend. Now what was she supposed to do?
Mistletoe For Christmas is a delightful look back at a love that once was and could be again. It could be as simple as reaching out and grabbing it, if only Joanna could be that brave. A story full of family, traditions and finding out what is truly important. I enjoyed this one very much and will put it on my re-read holiday list for next year as well. 🙂
