In the heart of the Rockies
In the arms of a cowboy
One white Christmas can change everything.

When firefighter and single dad Steve Springfield moved his four kids to a Colorado Christmas tree ranch, he intended for it to be a safe haven. But he never expected danger to follow them to his childhood home…

Folk artist Camille Brandt lives a quiet life. As the town’s resident eccentric, she’s used to being lonely–until Steve freaking Springfield changes everything. Brave and kind, he’s always had a piece of her heart, and it doesn’t take long before she’s in danger of falling for him and his rambunctious kids. But as mysterious fires break out across the sleepy Colorado town, Steve and Camille will have to fight if they want their happy family to survive until Christmas…

I have yet to meet a Katie Ruggle book, hero or heroine that I didn’t love… at times to different degrees, but she delivers such a good story with believable characters that she is on my ‘look for the next one’ list.  I’m really glad to be starting the Rocky Mountain Cowboys series for several reasons, and if you’re also a Katie Ruggle reader then you’ll know of a few of those reasons yourself.  Steve Springfield was a very secondary character who appeared several times, briefly but importantly in Ms. Ruggle’s Rocky Mountain K9 Unit series (which I highly recommend).  For those who haven’t read her other series, let’s just say I’ve been waiting for this story to arrive for awhile… and it, as well as the coming series were so well worth the wait.

Steve has moved his boisterous family back home to his family’s Christmas tree ranch, looking for a different start and leaving memories behind.  Not sure how his kids and their uncles are going to mix on a day to day basis, taking a volunteer fireman position while waiting for a permanent spot to open, and just settling in back home once again has Steve a bit on edge but with a hopeful wish for their future.  It doesn’t take long before his brothers are up to their old antics, he rediscovers one shy former classmate who has grown into a lovely, if somewhat eccentric lady, and a rash of mysterious fires grab Steve’s attention.  Life just got very full… and extremely interesting.

I loved Camille, she’s socially awkward, unique to herself and an extremely talented metal sculptor who has a bit of a problem in the form of a stalker.  In spite of her extreme shyness Camille bonds with each of Steve’s children, accepting each for their individuality and on their own merit.  For someone as uncomfortable around people as Camille is those kids went straight to her heart.  The unique flirting that Steve and Camille do is awkwardly funny and endearing… not so much his brother though, you’ll see what I mean.  Steve’s brothers aren’t deeply defined, aside from the very annoying one, but I expect we’ll get to know them better as the series moves along.  Camille’s noisy neighbor, gossiping small town residents and that stalker all add different layers to a very enjoyable read with an overall Christmas-y feel.

I had a blast with Rocky Mountain Cowboy Christmas, it’s funny, charming, suspenseful and just plain enjoyable.  I’m so looking forward to continuing this series, and I’d recommend this story for any Romance reader who loves a good love story, a touch of suspense and a very Christmas filled romance.
