My Rating:  4 stars

Cover Description:

They’ve weathered a lot worse than winter. For widow June Harper, another cold front is about to hit. Most call him Hugh. She’d call him Scrooge, except as the man ensures her needs are met, June can’t help but wonder how to meet the needs of his heart.

Netty Lewis can take care of herself, has for a while now. Some hired help over the holidays doesn’t change that. And even if Roy does take care of her, that doesn’t mean he cares for her or that he’ll stay past Christmas.

Pastor Colton McCabe is having the opposite problem. He’s not sure he’ll make it through the holidays with his new housekeeper. Grace can’t seem to do anything right but love. Perhaps being a homekeeper will earn her a permanent residence in his heart.

And no one longs for a home more than Connie Lancaster. She’s determined to return to St. Louis, and no cowboy can change her mind. But if Isaac can change her heart, maybe Connie will see the homecoming she’s been waiting for isn’t to a place but a person.

Stories in this novella collection include:  Last Chance Christmas by Julie Lessman, A Cowboy for Christmas by Ruth Logan Herne, Longhorn Christmas by Mary Connely, Connie’s Christmas Prayer by Anna Schmidt.

Cover Description:

In Catch a Tiger by the Tail by Eve Langlais, Broderick has a job to do—audit the books of a gentleman’s club. Sounds simple, except his company wants him to find dirt linking to the mob, his secret mob employer wants someone to pin the blame on, and the bar manager at the heart of the controversy doesn’t want him—even though she’s his mate.

In Wild Passions by Kate Douglas, six women—friends closer than sisters—head off to an exclusive mountain resort for a week-long bachelorette getaway, where most of the women just wants to know if there are any good men left in the world. There are, and they’re the men of Feral Passions, a unique resort located on a private wolf preserve, owned and run by a pack of sexy werewolves who use it as their own personal hunting ground for mates.

In Her Perfect Mates by A.C. Arthur, Malec Zenta was part of a loving lycan family until his twin brother’s suicide took a piece of his soul. Channing Verdi never knew his parents, but that was fine because at the age of sixteen on the night of the full moon, he realized his purpose. The only pleasure these two betas have managed to find in their life was in the bed with the women they shared. Now, a human woman has entered their lives…a woman who sets their primal instincts on fire, a woman they can’t help but stake their claim on…and give her the ultimate pleasure of being with two shifters at once.

Sadness At Saying Goodbye To An Author

Posted August 6, 2016 by Marsha in This one's a Keeper / 0 Comments

sunset over waterI’ve known for a few years now that this day was coming.  I kept telling myself that it would get better, that it was just a one time fluke – but the only one I was fooling was myself.

Sounds like a break-up speech, doesn’t it?  In many ways it is.  I’ve finally mentally said goodbye to an author that I’ve enjoyed for decades.  Yes, decades.  And it hurts just like breaking up with my best friend would as well.

Today I did something I never thought I’d do.  I went and read the reviews for a new release.  Surprising since I’m a “for the fun of it” reviewer?  Maybe.  But you see, for myself I want to be surprised by a story – that is the fun of it.  I don’t want to know everything before I crack open that first page.  The journey, the discovery is the enjoyment of reading to me.  But today I did read reviews.  And I found that I am not alone.

I don’t know what happened in this author’s life.  Something did.  When I’m more excited at reading a story that was published twenty years ago, one that I somehow missed rather than grab the newest release tells me that the spark is gone.  And it was with regret that I closed out the Amazon page for that newest story.  I no longer want to see the magic disappear with each new book.  I would much rather go back and re-read my collection and re-live the wonderment of those earlier works.  Because that is the author I loved and looked forward to each new release.  Sadly, that author no longer writes… at least not the stories that I want to read.

No, I’m not naming them – that would be unfair and rude.  But I know who is gone from my automatic excitement, don’t even read the blurb before hitting that buy button.  And it hurts.  And I know I’ll be tempted to try just one more time – I’ll talk myself out of it but the hurt will resurface.  I often wonder if authors understand just how much a part of our lives they become by letting us into their created universes.  It truly feels like I’m turning my back on my best friend – right after they walked away from me.
