In Big Sky Country. Sometimes forgiveness takes the most courage…

For her son’s sake, widowed veterinarian Vicky Siden works hard to pretend all is well. But the arrival of game warden Nick Youngston at her family’s animal rescue—with a horse and donkey in tow—changes everything.

With three-year-old Taylor eager to help Nick rehab Buddy and Dunk, Vicky can’t avoid her late husband’s best friend, who she’s always blamed for his death. Nor can Nick avoid the real reason he’s in town.

As old wounds resurface and feelings spark to life, facing the truth could keep them apart—or lead to an unexpected second opportunity at love.

This is a no-spice romance, perhaps with closed-door or fade-to-black scenes. Tension and kisses might be involved.

Title:  A Refuge in Montana
Series:  Three Sisters Rescue Farm #2

My Rating:  4.5 stars

A Refuge in Montana is the second title in the Three Sisters Rescue Farm series; this time, Vicky has to face the man she blames for her husband’s death, and Nick must deal with the past in order to forge a future.  It’s going to be an emotional rollercoaster for them, plus toss adorable little Taylor into the mix (who steals scenes left and right), and two people who are wounded from the past who need to face what cannot be changed, even as unexpected emotions erupt between them.

In reality, Vicky knows that Nick didn’t cause her husband’s death.  Yet logically knowing that, emotionally accepting that, and even forgiving him are another situation altogether.  A Refuge in Montana not only gives us a lovely, emotionally rich romance but also eventual forgiveness.  I saw the parallel between the wounded animals that they both care for and their own situation as another layer of healing.  Their romance is well-written, emotional, and, yes, healing in so many ways for both of them.  Taylor, Buddy, and Dunk added a touch of innocent charm, especially as Taylor was so determined to help the horse and donkey heal as well.  There are beautiful life lessons to be learned as Vicky and Nick allow their feelings to grow, setting the stage for future happiness… sometimes forgiveness is a gift that we not only give to another person, but is vital to our own mental health as well.  If that sounds like your kind of romance, then you’ll love this one.
