When I crave a deeply emotional romance, one that will, without a doubt, break my heart and eventually heal it once again, I turn to one of my favorite authors, Lela May Wight. She once again delivers with Poppy and Konstantinos in Broken Greek Vows, as they face an utter devastation that can only pull a couple more strongly together or tear them apart. For this couple, Poppy’s grief was soul-deep, and Konstantinos was unable to lower his walls to even admit that he felt the same way… because this proud Greek never, ever acknowledges emotions. It’s not that he doesn’t have them, but they will never rule him… or so he believes. They grieved, each in their own way, neither able to prevent the additional tragedy of a crumbling marriage.
A perceived betrayal only pushed Poppy over the edge, and she fled in absolute silence… from her marriage, from the man she loved, from the partner who would not, could not share in her grief, believing he had betrayed her in the cruelest way possible. They may have originally had a marriage of convenience, but circumstances changed for them both – one could acknowledge that; the other could not.
There were several times when I had to stop and take a deep, steadying breath while reading Broken Greek Vows. Watching Poppy and Konstantinos deal with their grief, their anger, their pain was often a raw experience. We’ll learn why Konstantinos reacted as he did, and that reason alone is full of heartache. While, yes, there is an eventual happy ending for this couple… the journey there is emotionally gut-wrenching. Broken Greek Vows is well-written, passionate, emotional, and easily broke my heart before the healing could arrive. If that sounds like your kind of romance, then you’d love this one.
I was gifted a copy of this title by the author. A positive review was not promised nor expected, only to experience it from the heart. I voluntarily leave my personal opinion of this book.
