Paige Calhoun has spent years concealing the truth about her family. She’s got a new life now, centered around her daughter and her career, and there’s no room in it for anything—or anyone—else. But when instincts honed at the side of her con-artist dad warn her that her grandma is in trouble, she returns to Serendipity Island…where the web of lies she has told are in jeopardy of being uncovered.

Brody Jackson always thought of Paige Calhoun as the little girl next door. Three years her senior, his sights were set on a football scholarship, and fame and fortune as a pro quarterback. But now he’s back home, his career down the tubes, battling the grandma from hell for permanent custody of his teenage daughter…all because of one careless mistake.

Brody’s got no time for one hot woman who’s messing with his mind and his future. And Paige can’t afford to let one gorgeous man distract her from saving the residents of the island from her dad’s latest scam. All they both want is a life free from the past. Instead, they’re caught between the truth and true love.

Read on for my thoughts on Caught Between a Lie and True Love.  No true spoilers, promise.

Paige and Brody are back on Serendipity Island.  Both adults now, both single parents of teenage girls.  Each with parent trouble, grandparent trouble and a nasty piece of work grandmother who is trying to take Brody’s daughter away from him.  Add a female stalker, a returning con-man father, politics and falling in love to that mix and you have a fun, sexy and entertaining treat.

Paige has lived a life of lies.  She’s grown up, put the past behind her and created a brand new life with her daughter at the center.  She never expected to come back to the island again.  Her grandmother had tossed her out, disowned her – so why she felt she had to protect her grandmother from the con her father was sure to run on her now that he was on the island too, she didn’t know.  But being a grown up means taking responsibility of the past and the people in it.

Brody hadn’t known that he had a daughter.  Her mother and grandmother had kept that fact from him for years.  Now that his one night stand lover has died, Brody is cast into the deep waters with a teenager and a vicious woman who will do anything to prove that Brody is unfit in order to get her granddaughter back under her roof.

At one time in their shared youth the three years separating Paige and Brody would have mattered – now, only the attraction between them and sorting out the lies from the truth matter.  It’s not going to be easy, it is definitely going to be complicated and perhaps a bit dangerous but these two belong together and somehow that’s going to happen in spite of their past.

But Brody has more trouble than he’s aware of.  When madness masquerades itself as a friend, no one is safe.

True love rarely moves smoothly, and for Page and Brody it’s going to be a bumpy road ahead of them.  Caught Between a Lie and True Love is a delightful story of the craziness of family, the angst  of the teen years and finding that one person who matters enough to fight them all.  I enjoyed this story very much and would not hesitate to recommend it to anyone who believes in true love conquering all, and for those that simply love a good story with a happy ever after.

*I received an e-ARC of Caught Between a Lie and True Love from the publisher and NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. That does not change what I think of this novel.*
