A woman running out of hope…
A rancher looking for a wife…
And three chaotic sisters and a sheepdog!

On the verge of being destitute, Phoebe Hale enlists the help of the Sisters’ Mail-Order Bride Company to find her a husband. What she finds instead is disorder, paperwork stacked to the ceiling, and three well-meaning sisters who could desperately use a woman with Phoebe’s practical skills.

Braxton Jones arrives with a similar purpose. Ready for a wife, he turns to the same company, only to discover that before any marriages can happen, the business itself may need saving. Practical, steady, and unwilling to walk away from a problem left unsolved, Braxton offers his help.

Neither Phoebe nor Braxton came looking for love in Chicago. They came for solutions. But as Christmas approaches and the Merriweather sisters press them into service, shared work turns into shared laughter, and cooperation begins to look dangerously like courtship. With the future of the Sisters’ Mail-Order Bride Company at stake, and their own hearts unexpectedly involved, Phoebe and Braxton must decide whether the greatest Christmas miracle might be the one they never planned for.

Because sometimes love arrives not through careful arrangement… but through a little Christmas calamity.

My Rating:  4.5 stars

I’ll confess that I don’t read as much Western Historical Romance as I once did… but, whenever I learn of a new series by Kit Morgan, I’m on that like flies on a horse!  She is the one constant writer in this genre that I will read no matter what pen name or genre she’s writing in.  And right now, there are two series to capture my attention (and hopefully, yours, too).  The Sisters’ Mail-Order-Bride Company series begins with Christmas Calamity, a hilarious, slapstick adventure with a charming romance within the, well, calamity facing all the characters.  Along with the newest series, be aware of the recent Wild Ridge Historicals series, which is connected to The Sisters’ Mail-Order-Bride Company series.  When I enjoy a writer’s work, I love finding connections between their worlds or when their world combine, so it’s mentioned if you enjoy seeing those kinds of connections as well.

The Merriweather sisters mean well… they truly do, but, well, misfortune seems to follow in their every footstep.  They’ve opened a Mail-Order-Bride company, one to rival another *cough* well-known establishment in a kind of self-contained rivalry as they intend to be the best in the country!  Unfortunately, it’s their assistant that keeps these ladies on the way to success, and Val has taken six brides to their destination toward the West.   That leaves the sisters on their own… and it takes only moments before disaster strikes again, and again.

Phoebe has decided that her only hope is to offer herself up as a mail-order bride.  Due to her mother’s recent death and her ne’er-do-well father’s reputation, well, she’ll have very little luck in finding a husband in Chicago.  Practically broke and desperate, she steps into the office of the matchmakers and straight into chaos.  Being the type of woman Phoebe is, she’ll step right in to help in any way that she can, not realizing that the “perfect” husband she’s dreaming of is about to appear, even if they seem all wrong for each other.

Braxton is a Texas rancher looking for a woman to partner with him in running the ranch, living with his family, and being a helpmate.  He’s not looking for beautiful, or decorative, or even shy… those things can be only surface.  What he’s looking for is a woman who isn’t afraid of hard work and rich rewards from a hands-on working ranch.  The Merriweather sisters are highly recommended, but that’s hard to believe when he steps into pure madness on his first visit to their office.  He notices a young woman who is trying her best to help out, but while there is interest there, Phoebe doesn’t seem like the type who isn’t fearful or used to anything beyond city living.  That’s a shame, because… well, he can see how she’d fit well with him.

I had a blast with Christmas Calamity by Kit Morgan.  It’s a well-written romance full of laugh-out-loud moments, silly shenanigans, close friendships, and taking a few risks while thinking outside of one’s comfort zone.  I loved watching Phoebe and Braxton slowly discover that they are, in fact, perfect for each other through tender moments and trying to corral both the Merriweather sisters and one adorable sheepdog, George.  Love often involves risks, after all, it’s an emotional commitment that requires enough trust in a person to believe they’ll treat your heart with care.  That’s a lesson that this couple learned well, and the result is a delightful Western Historical Romance that I’d highly recommend… and look forward to the next story.

I read this title through my Kindle Unlimited subscription.
