Computers hate me. Yeah. They really do. *sigh*
I was going along, working like every day and out of nowhere *BAM* *SMACK* … *Dead*
With the help of my computer whiz son over the last week we’ve pretty much rearranged this bad boy’s innards enough to get it working again… with a brand spanking new one on order. So, for now, I’m workable… I think. Guess time will tell.
So, with sincere apologies I’m now back at work writing up the reviews of the books I’ve had time to read (between doing computer surgery) while I was unplugged. It really is no fun being unplugged when it’s not for a fun thing, like a vacation. Nope. Not one little bit.
Sorry to hear about your computer troubles, and glad you were able to work out a fix. I hope all is well with the interim computer.
I too have had particularly bad luck with computers. I lost my laptop about a year ago to a terrible german shepard accident. It was devastating. My husband came to the rescue and we were able to salvage the hard drive, but it was a very stressful couple of days. I nearly lost all of my photos and a year’s worth of graphic work. Since, I’ve been better at backing things up.
Silver lining, even though the new one has had serious issues with windows 10 (hardware failure due to an automatic update a week after I bought it), it has a better graphics card than my last did. I hope your new one is great, and I’ll keep my fingers crossed for you! 🙂
Hi Keira,
Thanks 🙂
It’s holding with the computer equivalent of duct tape so fingers crossed til next week. It wasn’t even one of those “I’ll fix that tomorrow” things it was.. working… and not working. Ah well.
Yours sounds much more traumatic! Windows 10. I’ve kept putting that off.. and now it might be literally the last day that I can do it now. Oh well, guess I’ll figure that out next week. So fingers tightly crossed that I can stay online and get stuff done but that’s life ya know.. never a dull moment.
Oh, and I haven’t forgotten you *wink* Grizzly Mate is read (got lots of reading done) and the review should be up in a day or so.. I’m workin’ on it my friend. 🙂
I’m sure you’re quite busy after being without. And as always, I look forward to reading your thoughts!
It can be so hard losing a device since we’ve come to rely so much on them. I had an Asus, the one that died when my giant puppy got scared. I love my newer Lenovo more except for the issues that the new version of windows caused. I never thought I’d miss windows 8, lol. We had to clear the Lenovo after it gave me a sad face message for hardware failure as soon as it automatically updated with a patch for windows 10. I hear it’s supposed to be better, but my Lenovo doesn’t agree. It still has some problems where it acts like some of the software has never been used and needs to be set up, but it seems okay otherwise. I moved most of my work over to my mac, and just do graphical work on the Lenovo now. I’ve dropped the mac from standing without issue, so it’s my favorite. 🙂
I’ve never used a Mac, but a computer you can drop and still work??? Maybe I should look into this lol
I usually get my son’s handed down computers as he upgrades so do I.. but this time a dead and sorta revived computer won out… Mommy gets the new one first. 🙂 That will never happen again.
Best of luck with it. Maybe it’ll last twice as long as the hand me downs. I’ll keep my fingers crossed for you! 😀
