Cover Description:
Wyatt Jennings has been called a lot of things by the media. Bad-boy rocker. Intense drummer. Addict.
Finally out of rehab and desperate for a fresh start, Wyatt rejoins his mega-platinum rock band Shaken Dirty as they prepare for their world tour. But Wyatt’s demons are never far behind, always nipping at his heels for one. More. Fix.
Enter Poppy Germaine, the band’s new social media consultant. A beautiful bombshell who somehow manages to get underneath Wyatt’s skin, Poppy’s an addiction Wyatt can get behind. And even though she’s with the label—and therefore off-limits—he craves her. Needs her.
Except Poppy isn’t actually a social media consultant. She’s the daughter of the label’s CEO, sent undercover to babysit Wyatt and keep him from falling off the wagon again. Proving herself to her father is Poppy’s only goal—until she finds herself in Wyatt’s bed. But if Wyatt discovers the truth, it could send him spiraling all over again.
Read on for my thoughts on Fade Into You. No true spoilers, promise.
It’s been said that once you hit rock bottom the only way left is up. They would be wrong. There’s a lot more down a person can get, just ask Wyatt Jennings. It’s true, at least temporarily, that he’s beaten his heroin and alcohol addictions… but reality is you never truly beat them, you daily, hourly control the need and that control gets stronger over time. But you never, ever beat it, and when you start thinking you have you’re in for a world of a reality check. Wyatt may be out of rehab, but he is far from safe. His own personal demons have not left him and he’s adding even more to that heavy load he carries by doubting himself, convinced that he will never truly beat this need for numbness, his belief that he will be the downfall of not only himself but his friends, their band. They’ve had his back, but he’s proven that he cannot be trusted. So, how is he supposed to trust himself now?
Poppy has such a beautiful and ironic name. She will be Wyatt’s addiction – one that doesn’t destroy but builds, one that doesn’t leave him numb but opens up his life to possibilities, one that could keep him steady, one that will love him back and offer a future to fight for. Yet, just like the drug her namesake flower creates, Poppy also has the ability to destroy. For Poppy hasn’t been completely truthful with Wyatt and those lies will hold another possibility for him. Utter devastation.
Fade Into You is one of those stories that when you come to the end, you’ll sit back and go, “Whoa.” A roller coaster ride of reality, emotions and choices. How sometimes the difference between rock bottom and the heights of the mountain tops comes down to one person’s belief in you and a love that will not be set aside no matter what you do.
Yes, there is insta-love, insta-lust going on here. Yet I’m reminded that sometimes the “lightening bolt” just strikes and that’s it for a couple. I’m learning to get over it, accept it and move on with the story.
And what a story. I’m certain you can find reviews that will give you a blow by blow of the entire story of Wyatt and Poppy. What I’d like you to imagine from this review is very simple. This is the story of a man who hates himself, blames himself and is punishing himself through drugs. Yes, Wyatt has had a lot of crap tossed at him in his life, but to be fair so have other people. He made his choice. And with Poppy he has another choice – to grab onto the best thing that ever happened to him. With her love, support and belief in him as a man he could do anything. Love does matter, it can make a world of difference in one life when a person lets it.
As with any series, Shaken Dirty is best when read in order – yet, you could enjoy and “get” Wyatt and Poppy’s story if you only read this one story in the series. I would recommend Fade Into You to any Romance reader. Sometimes you just gotta believe.
*I received an e-ARC of Fade Into You from the publisher, Entangled Publishing – Brazen and NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. That does not change what I think of this novel.*
