Fury in Death is the 63rd title in the In Death series.  Sometimes it’s hard to believe I’ve been deeply involved with this world for that many books plus novellas.  Yet with every new novel, I’m once again reminded of what an amazing author J.D. Robb (and her other pen name) truly is.  You think what you will; that’s my opinion, and I don’t see it changing any time soon.  This time, Eve and Roarke, along with the men and women within this world who serve and protect others, will find themselves facing a situation that seems completely impossible to comprehend… on several levels.

It would be extremely easy to give away spoilers if I wrote this from the heart.  But that wouldn’t be fair to the next reader discovering Fury in Death.  I can safely say this story has a different kind of intensity.  One where you’ll ask yourself hard questions and feel differently about what you knew about yourself by the end.  That’s neither good nor bad; it just is.  The crime aspect of this case has everyone on edge, and it was (as always) a joy to watch each character go about solving it in their own way.  I’ve loved watching the development of all the ongoing characters over the years, to the point where they feel at best like family or very close friends.  There’s more than one surprise for this group of friends who feel more like family than Eve would like… but then, that’s Eve; she’d rather eat one of those very expensive boots that, by some magic (Roarke), keep appearing in her closet than admit to… an emotion.  Her angst is one reason I love her so much.

Fury in Death is well-written, gripping, and emotional on several levels.  It belongs in my top 5 most enjoyed novels in this series.  If this is your first encounter with the In Death family, you couldn’t have picked a better entry point into a world you’ll want to return to again.
