As a college librarian in Wyoming, shushing students and tending the family cattle ranch is about the most excitement Annie Cornell can count on. So when Annie wins an all-expenses-paid shopping spree at a high-end department store in New York City, she’s thrilled to trade wide-open spaces for fast-paced Fifth Avenue. But she never expected to be swept off her feet—least of all by an overconfident, horse-mounted police officer…

Sergeant Bart Hardin is instantly attracted to Annie. He’s not sure if it’s the way she handles his trusty horse or the way those angelic hazel eyes held his gaze during that rowdy protest outside the UN. Whatever it is, Bart quickly learns that this clueless tourist in need of his protection can handle herself just fine—in fact, she might just teach him a thing or two on these mean Manhattan streets.

Read on for my thoughts on Her Winning Ways.  No true spoilers, promise.

Annie is having the time of her life in New York City.  Who wouldn’t love spending 50 thousand dollars on themselves?  But this trip is more than just the winning of a shopping bonanza, it’s a chance to do some exploring beyond her hometown and the family ranch.  As Annie is exploring New York City she finds herself in the middle of a demonstration at the United Nations building – and her rescuer is a very handsome horse patrol policeman.  One that definitely sparks interest on her part.

Bart is attracted to the hazel eyed beauty looking so overwhelmed in the midst of the demonstrators  And that attraction only gets stronger as they spend more time together.  When his partner, his trusted horse is endangered it’s Annie who goes off on her own to try to find him.

Can this, at times, arrogant professional protector let himself trust in his feelings for this lovely lady?  And can she handle him?

Her Winning Ways is an entertaining story.  While there were times when Bart’s overbearing, ‘I’m always right’ attitude did get to me… in the end he was tempered by Annie’s personality.  This is a lovely adventure love story and it tickled me to no end to have Annie solve the mystery instead of the professional cop.

It is a story that took me awhile to warm up to the characters, and Bart’s attitude was annoying – but I enjoyed my time in the story.  If you’re looking for a light romance set in the majesty that is New York City then you’ll enjoy Her Winning Ways.

*I received an e-ARC of Her Winning Ways from the publisher and NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. That does not change what I think of this novel.*
