If I blinked, he could be gone. If I blinked, I could be dead.

Hunting vampires isn’t a burden for jet-setter Violet Fields—it’s life’s greatest adventure. When her prey starts to migrate, Violet is determined to uncover the reason why. After traveling the world and saving countless innocent lives, she thought she’d seen it all…until she meets him.

Ruthless vampire Walter Chapman has fought his share of enemies for over two centuries, and throughout it all, he’s survived, with style. His greatest challenge isn’t the century-long rivalry that brings trouble to Scarlet Harbor, but a human woman who steals his heart. If he can’t bring the vampire conflict to a successful resolution, his and Violet’s eternal love story might be over before it’s begun.

Violet hunts vampires and she’s exceptionally good at it.  This might not have been the path her parents envisioned for her but it was what she excelled at, got satisfaction from and Violet had no troubles at all living the life she wanted, by her own rules.  Her prey was changing, and if she expected to continue to be successful then she’d better find out why.

She hadn’t expected to have a vampire save her life – and she certainly didn’t expect her reaction to him.

Walter may be second to the Vampire Queen, but that doesn’t mean he enjoys the position or the ridiculous, reckless orders the young Queen delivers.  His loyalty is intact yet he cannot see how this queen can be successful for long when she has so little talent at truly ruling in a mature, realistic fashion.  The one thing his queen did for him was set him on a path that lead to Violet.  In his centuries of existence he’d never found his true love – and when he does, she’s a vampire hunter.  There’s a kind of irony in that and it’s not wasted on Walter.  Yet, there are larger problems emerging and if Walter, and now Violet, cannot handle them no one will have to worry about happy ever afters ever again.

Part of my draw to series is the overview I get of characters.  They grow, they change, they end up being not what I expected from earlier encounters with them – and that always adds an edge to any story.  I would not have called Walter my favorite character of all time from my knowledge of him in the previous novel, Pierced.  No, not at all.  Yet while his own story was being told I found him quite charming, in an odd way, not the total bully I’d originally thought of him and actually a very hot and lovable guy.  Go figure.  That is what I love about series, I’m constantly having to rethink what I think I know.

Walter and Violet light up the page with chemistry.  Opposites attract – hell yeah.  But they work, and that is what makes them perfect for each other.  When I can believe in a couple, I’ll root for that couple.  There are delightfully chilling twists and turns in Hunted that will keep you on your toes.  And an intriguing look into the next story to come.  No, I’m not going to give you details you should read this one for yourself.  I will say that I was captured once again by Keira Blackwood’s imagination, her richly detailed world and her knowledge of her characters.  I may not have always known that Walter was a really good guy, but she played him perfectly at first so that was an unexpected surprise to me now.  When an author can weave threads throughout her stories that connect and yet often change just enough to make life interesting – that’s an author I’m going to follow.

If you love vampire romance, then this is a series you’d devour with delight.  We have another story coming soon with its own twists to be caught up in.  Frankly, I cannot wait.  I’d recommend Hunted to any Paranormal Romance reader who enjoys a richly detailed world, realistic (for the genre) characters, and an emotional attachment to the couples involved.  If you haven’t yet picked up Pierced, then you should do so.  Any series is best experienced in order for small nuances flow from one book to the next.  I’ve no doubt but that you’d enjoy both books and look forward to the next.

I own a Kindle edition of this story.
