I Learned About His Vasectomy At Our Fertility Appointment by Kelsie Calloway

She spent nearly three years believing her own body was broken. Then a new specialist looked at her husband’s chart and asked how long ago he’d had the vasectomy.

Juliet Rourke built her life around certainty: a career preserving delicate history, a quiet lake house, and a marriage everyone envied. She loved her husband fiercely, which was why she endured every negative pregnancy test, every grueling fertility treatment, and thirty-four months of heartbreak believing she was the one who couldn’t give him a child.

Then came the new fertility appointment. With one question from a doctor reading Beckett’s lab results, six years of her marriage were shattered into a nightmare.  Beckett didn’t deny it. He made the decision alone, got a secret vasectomy, and let her take medication for a problem that didn’t exist.

Juliet packs her bags and walks away.

Now they are separated, and Beckett is desperate. He isn’t asking for forgiveness. He submits to her strict rules, showing up every Thursday at a public library, answering her questions, and earning back every inch of ground he lost.

And against her better judgment, Juliet feels the ice beginning to thaw.  Until an unsent document exposes the true timeline of what happened years ago and the secret he’s still keeping.

Juliet realizes the reasons he lied to her are far more dangerous than she ever imagined.  Now, she has to decide whether the man who betrayed her body can ever be trusted with her heart… and whether the truth will heal them, or finish what he started.

My Rating:  2.5 stars

I am going to be brutally frank and extremely brief about my opinion of I Learned About His Vasectomy at Our Fertility Appointment.  I hesitated before requesting this ARC; I didn’t listen to myself.

Juliet and Beckett’s story could have been a wrenching, heartbreaking betrayal of someone’s love.  It could have been an emotional hurricane of being allowed to experience heartache after heartache, believing it was your fault that you and your husband could not conceive… but it wasn’t.  For me, at least.  I was “told” their story; I had no reason at all to care how this betrayal could ever be turned around.  When I am not allowed to be emotionally involved in a romance, only told about emotions and reasons, I’m not stepping into that story.  And when I cannot step into the character’s shoes, it shows in how much I enjoy a story.

There is probably an audience for this story; it, unfortunately, is not me.

*I received an e-ARC of this novel from the author or the author’s team via Booksprout, and I sincerely thank them for their trust. I chose to leave a review with my personal opinion of this book.*
