Cover Description:

Championship bull rider Nick Wilde is the face of Montana Pro Rodeo, with all the acclaim and fans he can handle. But is that enough? Contemplating his next career move, he’s come home to his family’s cherry orchard—and to his childhood crush, helicopter pilot Harper Stone. But Harper’s not quite the sexy, badass girl he once lusted after. Recently widowed, she’s broken in two. Wanting to help her move on, Nick finds himself aching for the kind of stability he never had as a child.

True love comes once if you’re lucky, and Harper already had her shot. An accident took her husband eighteen months ago and left only pain and guilt in his place. Now Nick is waking up her body and heart to everything she might still have to gain…or lose. A second chance is more than she thinks she deserves. But with a man like Nick doing the persuading, maybe it’s time to try.

Read on for my thoughts on Montana Rescue.  No true spoilers, promise.

There are times when a story will touch your heart on many levels.  A story that speaks truth, reality and true human emotions.  Montana Rescue is such a story.

On the surface, Nick has it all.  A famous, successful rodeo bull rider, a huge fan base, commercials, any woman he might want and some he doesn’t flock easily to his persona.  But the real Nick lies buried deep within.  A man with a boy’s memories and determination to not make the same mistakes, to never ever trust another person with his most precious possession… his heart.

Harper had the fairy tale, the husband she adored, working side by side at rewarding work they both enjoyed.  Life was good for them… until tragedy struck and her life fell into tiny pieces she has no hope of ever putting back together again.  She’s not looking for love, she’s had it and lost it – she’ll never risk that emotion again.

Fate works in strange ways, Nick and Harper find themselves working closely together.  He’s had a crush for years, she’s not looking for anything – but perhaps rescue comes in the strangest form of another person who can give you that second chance at a happy future… if you let them in.

I’ve always enjoyed Kim Law’s works and Montana Rescue is no exception.  These are complicated characters with pasts that could easily keep them apart and alone for the rest of their lives.  At times Harper comes off as too tough to ever bend enough to forgive and move on, Nick is battling his own demons yet his patience is the rock in their relationship even having a chance.  I enjoyed watching them open up to each other and to the possibilities that life is handing them right now.

If you are a reader who enjoys deeper, more complicated characters then Montana Rescue is a story that I believe you’d enjoy.  While this is part of a series, and we do meet up with some characters from the first novel, you could read this one on it’s own… and probably want to go back and get the first one.
