Jamaica, 1820
Isabelle North needs a hero, and if an arrogant mercenary is all she can find… he’ll just have to do. She must get back to England before her past catches up with her, even if that means booking passage on a vessel captained by a man she cannot abide.
Phillip Ashford, notorious smuggler and captain of the privateer Intrepid, knows Miss North is trouble. She’s stubborn, for starters, and it’s painfully clear she’s conning him—she looks more like a schoolmarm than the rich man’s mistress she claims to be. But beneath her prim exterior is a sharp wit and courageous spirit that draws him in despite himself.
They both know they should keep their distance. But passion flares as they defend themselves on the high seas—until Phillip begins asking questions Isabelle would rather not answer. After all, how much can she really share with a man she’ll never trust?

Read on for my thoughts on An Inconvenient Mistress. No true spoilers, promise.
You just have to admire a woman who would take on a drunken ship’s captain, bail him out of jail, handcuff yourself to him — all to prove that yes, he is going to take her and her young nephew to England. Now.
Bella is strong, determined and hellbent on getting away from the Jamaican shores with her young charge. No one will stop her from protecting her sister’s son. Especially not this arrogant, drunk… handsome Captain.
Once Phillip’s head cleared up, and he wasn’t running from bullets any longer, he had to admit to admiring this school marmish lady who stood up to him so fearlessly.
I enjoyed An Inconvenient Mistress. The interaction between Bella and Phillip was sassy, sexy and at times… very intense. When a man finds that woman who is proving to be the ideal woman for him – he does just about anything to win her, protect her and keep her by his side. I loved that Bella didn’t just fall at his feet.
