When Rafael Villar, Lord Vampire of London, stumbles upon a woman in the cemetery, he believes he’s found a vampire hunter—not the beautiful, intelligent stranger she proves to be.

Cassandra Burton is enthralled by the scarred, disfigured vampire who took her prisoner. The aspiring physician was robbing graves to pursue her studies—and he might turn out to be her greatest subject yet. So they form a bargain: one kiss for every experiment. As their passion grows and Rafe begins to heal, only one question remains: can Cassandra see the man beyond the monster?

Read on for my thoughts on Bite at First Sight.  No true spoilers, promise.

Surprisingly, it isn’t all that common to find a Regency Paranormal Romance novel.  One or the other, but unfortunately not together very much.  Which just made this novel all the more enticing to me.

And I will be completely honest – reviewing NetGalley novels has caused me to spend money ~ on the earlier books in many of the series I’ve reviewed through them.  It’s not easy to resist once you’ve read the third in a series to not want the first and second books, right?  So since, technically, I’m getting some novels for free from NetGalley and the publisher for that honest review – I’m also buying many author’s back novels.  I’m thinking this relationship is working out well.  *happy book lover dance*

Anyways, on to the review of Bite at First Sight.

The very first thing I loved about Bite at First Sight was its setting.  Really.  It is not that easy to find Paranormal and Regency Romance combined.  I was surprised too, but there ya go.  Combining two of my favorite genres, definite on the win list.

While this novel is the third in the Scandals with Bite series, it can be read easily without knowing the first two stories. (I would highly recommend all three – not it’s not essential)  It’s not a true stand alone book, but there is nothing to stop you from enjoying it as if it was.  The mentions of earlier books’ characters are effortlessly woven into the current novel.

Rafael – what a intense, wounded (even if he won’t admit it) vampire.  He is the Lord Vampire of London now and his need to protect the other vampires under his reign leads him to the cemetery and what appears to be a vampire hunter.

Cassandra – a woman ahead of her times.  She only wanted to heal others.  But no one will allow a woman into medical school, so she is basically a self-taught healer.  And one who must haunt local cemeteries in search of the recently buried.  Yes, it does make her technically a grave robber.  But she isn’t searching for buried treasures – but needs the bodies to continue her studies of the human body.

When Rafael discovers Cassandra on one of her night visits to the cemetery he discovers that his ability to wipe her mind of his existence – is not working on her!  How can this be?  His only choice is to take her captive until her fate is decided by those who are above even him in this vampire empire.

Cassandra wants to use her medical knowledge to heal Rafael’s scars and other injuries.  He is of course, skeptical but allows her to continue on a “payment plan” for her efforts.  A kiss for a heal.  Until it becomes obvious that these two will never stop at just kisses.  Then the true fun of this novel begins.

I highly recommend this novel to anyone who enjoys Regency Romance or Paranormal Romance – heck, anyone who enjoys an intense love story with a definite hot Alpha male and a not so lady-ish of the times heroine.  Of course, there is much more to their story, but you need to read Bite at First Sight for yourself to enjoy the entire story.  I’m not going to spoil your pleasure any further.  This one gets a 4 outta 5 on my rating scale.

*I received an e-ARC of Bite at First Sight from the publisher and NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. That does not change what I think of this novel.*

Oh, and check out your favorite e-novel suppliers – mine is Amazon.  Right now you can get the first novel free and the second at a reduced price.  So check that out, ‘cos I have no idea how long those prices are going to last.  And you’d have the entire series.

The third novel, Bite at First Sight releases on April 7, 2015

Bite at First Sight is available for the Kindle at Amazon.
