Clara Sinclair has learned to live one lonely day at a time. It was the only way she managed to survive her husband’s death in World War II and raise their young son alone. But now she’s at a loss as to how to handle the defiant teenager he has become, even as she struggles to keep her family financially afloat. She’s fresh out of ways to turn her luck around-until a daring stranger’s unexpected kindness sparks hope she hasn’t felt in a long time . . .
Drake McCoy lives for risk, speed, and putting his incredible drag racing skills to the test. Read on for my thoughts on Twice in a Lifetime. No true spoilers, promise.
1954. Gosh, life was so very different then, it’s truly difficult to really explain how different. I was born in the ’50s although I’m more of a 60s-70s lady but I have vague memories of those times – and life was nothing like it is today. Except for one thing. Love. Love still can carry you to the highest heights and loss of love can still plunge you into the deepest depths. Love rarely changes no matter the year.
Love died for Clara during World War II – as it did for so many men and women. She’s strong and determined but as her son becomes her biggest worry by his actions and attitude she is reaching the end of her rope.
Drake lives for racing. It is his life, his love. When he meets Clara those priorities get changed around. Can they deny a love that could change their lives? You’ll need to read Twice in a Lifetime to find out for sure.
I enjoyed this specific time frame novel very much. It takes the reader back to a vastly different time, yet the emotions, the situations and the results are truly timeless. I also am a huge fan of second chances at love – life happens, things-people change but love is one absolute that anyone can count on no matter the year.
*I received an e-ARC of Twice in a Lifetime from the publisher and NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. That does not change what I think of this novel.*
