Cover Description:

Nothing shines like classic cars under the Miami heat. With engines revving hot and emotions running high, sparks are sure to fly . . .

Tori Chazov isn’t exactly the girl next door. For one, if the neighbors found out she’s an FBI asset and the daughter of a KGB defector, she’d have to grab her go bag and run. Then there’s her day job: making magic happen under the hood of big beautiful muscle cars. She’s more likely to be wearing engine grease than mascara, and most guys don’t fantasize about their mechanics.

But then most girls don’t fantasize about FBI tech geniuses, either, and Tori has it bad for Emery Martin. Emery has a past. She can see it in the way he keeps his body honed like a weapon, in the mysterious scars under his snap-button shirts. She can see it in the way his eyes follow her around the room, even though he never says a word.

He’s going to have to start talking now, though. A vicious Russian hit squad is on the way to Miami to take Tori out for good. And without Emery’s help, she might not make her last great escape.

Shift once again brings us into the undercover lives of several FBI agents and more.  While deep undercover these folks also get to play around with and work on some smokin’ hot cars… a dream come true for many folks.

Tori is a mechanic at the garage, she’s also on the run from a Russian hit squad – and they’ve located her and her sister.  If there can be a good part in this it’s that now she’s getting the chance to get up close and personal with the agent she’s been crushing on.  Emery might be the unit’s tech geek, but his body and attitude spell out danger in caps.  He’s noticed Tori and he’s attracted, he just isn’t making a move – until it’s been forced on him.  When the lady is in danger he cannot deny any longer just what she means to him – so the past be damned as he sets out to protect the woman of his heart.

Hot Rides is a series with a lot of characters, at times keeping them straight can be a challenge.  We’re talking the good guys, the bad guys and the other influences that pop up.  So while I believe it’s possible to read each story on it’s own… it is always my belief that any series is best when read from start to finish.

Emery and Tori’s story is full of action, romance and issues from their pasts that must be dealt with.  There were moments that the story was slower paced than I expect in a romantic suspense novel, but you soon get into the rhythm of the story.  Considering the crazy backstory for these characters and the lives that they lead – Tori and Emery were a likable and believable couple.

If you love danger, mystery, hot cars and even hotter romance – then Shift is the perfect story for you.

*I received an e-ARC of Shift from the publisher, Kensington Books – Zebra Shout and NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.  That does not change what I think of this novel.*
