One month. One fake boyfriend. One shot at forever.

I’ve got four weeks to cross one thing off my bucket list—and it isn’t exactly PG.

I’m not the type to take risks, but when a friend battling cancer dares you to go big, you don’t say no. My mission? Lose my V-card before my baby sister’s wedding.

Did I mention she’s marrying my high school crush? Yeah. There’s no way I’m walking into that ceremony as the awkward, untouched older sister.

Enter single dad Ian Barlowe—my sinfully hot, NFL legend neighbor, who owes me big time after his daughter breaks into my house. He offers to make amends by playing my fake boyfriend. How can I say no?

It should be easy enough—except nothing about Ian feels fake. The chemistry? Explosive. His unexpected sweetness? Heart-melting. And the way he seems to like me just as I am? Ruh, roh.

Here’s the thing—I don’t do vulnerability, and neither does he. But as the line between pretend and real starts to blur—especially in the bedroom—I wonder if happily-ever-after is a game we can win.

I set out to score one for the bucket list, but now I’m playing for keeps. And if we’re not careful, I might lose my heart in the final play.

Title:  Someone to Love
Series:  Skylark #1

My Rating:  4.5 stars

Someone to Love begins the Skylark series with Sadie and Ian’s fake turned real romance that’s well… complicated.  Ian, a famous (or infamous) retired NFL football player, has made this small town his new home.  Far removed from the spotlight, he’s hoping to raise his preteen daughter, Riva, there, hopefully earn her trust and her love along the way.  He’s about to discover that life in a small town, where everyone knows your business (or tries to), is going to be an adventure he didn’t see coming.  Or that his next-door neighbor, Sadie, and her menagerie of dogs would fit into his life like a glove.

Sadie’s group of book club friends has decided to take a page from their current book and go big or go home with a variety of bucket list item challenges.  Sadie’s is kind of a big deal, one that will lead to a pretend romance, a love she didn’t see coming, and complications that threaten to turn her safe, quiet life upside down.  There’s either heartbreak or a happily ever after at the end of this adventure; either way, she’s not too sure she’s ready for the changes coming.

I loved everything about Someone to Love by Michelle Major.  It’s well-written, lighthearted, funny, steamy, with solid friendships, and a father/daughter combo to fall for. If you love a good sports romance, well, retired sports, or just a beautifully crafted romance that will tug at your heart, then you’d love Sadie and Ian.
