Fleeing a life her wealthy father planned—including the groom he picked out—Perth midwife Gabi Hudson heads off grid to the small and charming town of Wirralong in the Outback. She’s hoping for a fresh start and to live a life of purpose while working in a local baby crèche during her friend’s maternity leave. A cute cottage is included, but the hot cowboy setting up an unusual holiday display is a heart-pounding surprise.
Texas Cowboy Cormack Callaghan has been traveling the world working odd jobs until a lucrative hobby changes his fortunes. He loves making metal art in Wirralong, but Cormack’s finally booked his ticket home. He promised his patiently waiting family that he’d finally be home for this Christmas, but then he’s blindsided by the intriguing Gabriella.
Cormack’s never been a relationship kinda guy, and Gabi knows he’s temporary. Surely two weeks isn’t long enough for either of them to be so foolish as to fall in love. Or is it?

The Midwife’s Christmas Miracle begins the multi-author Outback Christmas series that takes us back to Wirralong, Australia (there are several “Outback” series), for Christmas. where we might run into some familiar faces from those earlier series. Don’t worry if you haven’t read the earlier ones, but if this is your first trip to Wirralong, then there are many other adventures to be found in those earlier stories that you might enjoy.
Gabi is a midwife and a mothercare nurse who has had enough of her widowed father’s controlling shenanigans, this time stating outright that he’s arranged a marriage for her that’s of benefit to the family… doesn’t seem to care one little bit that Gabi has no interest in this arrangement. Fortunately, around this time, when Gabi needed an escape, her friend and fellow midwife, Stevie, came to the rescue, offering Gabi the chance to come to Wirralong to take over for Stevie while she’s on maternity leave, offering a six-month reprieve from the drama of home.
Cormac is a Texas-born cowboy, a talented metal artist who has been traveling the world for the past ten years. He’s set to return home soon to be with his grandfather and sister, so his time here in Wirralong is drawing to a close. But those plans may change when he meets Gabi on her first day in town. With the time constraints on them, they chose to enjoy each other’s company in the time that they have… but when love blooms, some plans will need to change.
I enjoyed The Midwife’s Christmas Miracle by Fiona McArthur so much. It was fun to return to the Outback with new (and old) friends while watching two people who perfectly complement each other fall in love and find that Christmas magic that will allow them to find a happy ending to their time together. Their story is well-written, emotional, filled with laughter, a bit of sadness, and hope for the future. If that sounds like an Outback adventure you’d like to experience, then Gabi’s and Cormac’s story is the perfect fit for you.
