After one last performance, Calyssa Durant will be trading in her ballet slippers for an uncertain future.
Having sacrificed so much of her life to become a ballerina, Calyssa has met her goals only to long for something more. She will dance the role of the Sugar Plum Fairy in the ‘Nutcracker’ one more time before quitting her traveling ballet troupe.
But, when a late-night rehearsal ends with surprising danger, Calyssa and theater owner, Nikolas Clauson, are caught in a battle with an unexpected villain. As the smoke clears, Calyssa finds herself on a journey to her own, real-life ‘Land of the Sweets’. Will she also find her own Nutcracker Prince, or will his stormy past and current secrets be more than this ballerina can overcome?
Read on for my thoughts on The Romance of the Sugar Plum Fairy. No true spoilers, promise.
Calyssa was wrapping up her career, officially. She would still dance in some capacity but her official ballerina career ends with this tour. What she doesn’t realize just yet is that an entire new world is about to open up for her.
Nik has built his life around his daughter’s happiness. It’s not fair to Nina that her parents do nothing but fight and cannot stand the sight of each other. he will do anything within his power to see her smile light up her small face. So when the beautiful Calyssa comes to town, his own attraction and the love of being a ballerina that his daughter has is just a perfect combination for him. He never expected the dangers they would face or the sheer joy of being with her would bring to him. Nik just knows that he needs this woman in his life.
The Romance of the Sugar Plum Fairy is a touching, enjoyable story of two people who somehow complete each other. No reason, no rhyme just it’s right and even though Calyssa is coming to the end of one road another has opened up for her. A story of the heart and one to simply enjoy.
