Big city K-9 cop Ronan McGuire loves women, loves his dog, loves his job – but when old flame Maddy Morgan moves into his jurisdiction, he can’t think about anyone else.
Ronan knows she’s way out of his league, but he’s determined to help Maddy live life to the fullest.

Maddy has immersed herself in work and swiftly made a name for herself in the hot New York City real estate market. She’s looking for safety, not love, but Ronan McGuire is as persistent as he is sexy, and his crooked smile is hard to resist. But all other concerns are wiped away when Maddy goes missing and Ronan and his bloodhound K-9 partner are tasked with finding her and bringing her home.

Titles in this series include:  Brave The Heart, Trouble Walks In

Read on for my thoughts on Trouble Walks In.  No true spoilers, promise.

I personally love when a pet or working animal is part of the main characters making up any story.  There is no logic to that feeling, it simply feels more “real life” to me, perhaps because my furry friends are part of my family as well.  So having Ronan’s K-9 partner, Bowser, as the third main character in Trouble Walks In was simply icing on the reading cake.. plus who wouldn’t love that brave, goofy pup.  *grin*

Maddy is trying her best to hide her heartache in the big city of New York.  Here she’s just another real estate agent, granted one of the best, but in the thousands of people here she doesn’t have to acknowledge the empty spot where her boyfriend had stood for over a decade.  While their relationship might not have set romance novel covers on fire, still they’d been together for so long and his death still surrounded her heart.

She wasn’t looking for romance.  She wasn’t on the search for a loving family to welcome her in with open arms.  She wasn’t trying to find herself in danger… but she got all of that and more.

Ronan had such a crush on Maddy back in school.  She never gave him the time of day, but that didn’t stop the feelings.  Once he realized that Maddy was now in his city, and a very talented, top ranked real estate agent, the need to protect her was too strong to resist.  Sure, there had been no direct threat toward her but he knew that a killer was on the loose in the city and that she was exactly the type of victim he targeted.

Trouble Walks In has many layers.  It’s a second chance at love for them both in some ways.  It’s also has a friends to lovers feel as Maddy takes her time to decide if she wants what Ronan is offering.  And it’s also a romantic suspense with the thread of a killer and possible danger woven through it.  I would have loved it if only one of those things existed, combine them and you have a fantastic, enjoyable romance.  Not every couple is gong to jump into a romance immediately, for some there needs to be time to learn to trust again.  Some people know right away that they’ve met “the one”, others need to be certain.  And really – there is no perfect formula for love, what works for each couple just works.  I felt throughout this story that Ronan’s certainty and Maddy’s hesitation was right for them… that eventually they’d come together as a happy couple – plus one adorable K-9 partner who was a part of their family.

Romance, suspense and a brave dog  – what more could you ask for?  And Sara Humphreys certainly delivers.  I’ve loved both McGuire brothers’ stories and am looking forward to the next encounter with this family.  If you’re looking for a solid, believable and entertaining romance, then this one should be on your reading list.  I’d highly recommend Trouble Walks In and this series.
