After her home and livelihood are demolished by developers, Fae agrees to house- and dog-sit for her wealthy stepsister in Bondi Beach.
A fish out of water in this glamorous setting, Fae has her guard up when she encounters gorgeous neighbor Rick and his adorable Great Dane.
But the philanthropic billionaire quickly challenges her perceptions, and their intense chemistry explodes into a passionate—but strictly temporary—flirtation.
Because it’s clear Rick doesn’t trust easily, and Fae could never truly belong in his affluent world—could she? Yet it’s increasingly hard to imagine their trysts ever ending!

What Happens at the Beach… begins the Sun, Sea, and Swept Away series with a couple who definitely get off on the wrong foot with one who doesn’t hold back her preconceived ideas about the other.
Fae’s life has been upended by developers destroying her home and the place where she worked in the name of progress, which translates into upscale housing development for the very rich as they push out the working-class families who have called that neighborhood home for generations. Her immediate dislike of her neighbor is based solely on the sound of his voice and the fact that he lives in this uber-rich neighborhood, right next door to her stepsister, where she’ll be dog-sitting as Sasha and Gigi are off on their honeymoon.
Rick is also escaping, but in a different way. He’s a titled lord who is rebuilding his life, his estate, and his family’s reputation after the actions of his father ruined just about every aspect of his life. He’s perhaps not quite starting over right now, but he is enjoying not being recognized, a bit of time to just breathe. And the delightfully cute dog-sitter next door has both his dog’s and his attention. Snarky? Yes, she definitely is that, and who knew that he’d enjoy snark!
I had fun watching this couple’s walls come tumbling down, preconceived notions replaced with reality, as they both allowed their true selves to come to the forefront. Oh, there will be issues to be dealt with, but the journey to their happy ending was an emotional and delightful rollercoaster ride. And two dogs will steal absolutely every scene they are in…Ralph and Precious have their own *cough* romance to deal with as well.
If you enjoy a rather lighthearted romance that’s full of emotions, issues, and yes, snark will be involved, then you’d love What Happens at the Beach…by Rachael Stewart.
I own a Kindle edition of this title.
