Cover Description:
Sergeant Melody Finnegan has never felt good enough—not for her family, not for her career, and especially not for First Sergeant Jason Stewart. But she was there for him once, on a night when he had no one, and she’s never forgotten the way he made her feel.
Jason has hated the holidays ever since his ex-wife took their four-year-old daughter and left on Christmas day. But while he may not believe in the holiday spirit, he does believe in his men. And this year they could use something to cheer them up more than ever before. When Jason is called on to play Santa at his unit’s Christmas party, he has no choice but to accept, especially because this could be exactly what he’s been wishing for… a second chance with Melody.
Read on for my thoughts on A Soldier’s Wish. No true spoilers, promise.
A Soldier’s Wish is such a touching and charming romance for any time of the year. Yes, there is definitely a Christmasy feel but I could have read it in July and enjoyed it just as much.
Jason is a strong character, one who has had the misfortune to have once married a totally horrid woman. Now divorced, she is using the one option that can cause him the most pain – their daughter, Sky. If there is ever a villainess that you want to truly strangle this is the one. One of the most touching moments in the story revolves around a decision the ex-wife made and how Melody was there for Jason when he needed her most.
Melody is a character who will touch your heart. She has lived a life where she is always feeling not good enough – and circumstances have reinforced that feeling. She wants a relationship with Jason but there are obstacles in their path. How they overcome those difficulties is a major aspect of this romance.
Sky will charm your socks off. She has one big wish and a detailed list for the perfect present for her Daddy. And Melody fits that perfectly.
I enjoyed this story and would recommend it. The details on military restrictions on romances between those in the military were interesting and kinda sad at the same time. Love is… no matter the rank, but I do understand the possibilities of misdeeds so it does make sense. And I do appreciate that glimpse into life of an officer’s love complications.
*I received an e-ARC of A Soldier’s Wish from the publisher and NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. That does not change what I think of this novel.*
Available for the Kindle
This sounds such a heartfelt and sweet story! I’ll add it to my TBR list 😀
