Putting down roots means something very different to this Midwest girl and sexy Montana cowboy.

Natalie Wright loves being a development coordinator for new construction. But while the travel was exciting at first, she’s ready to put her suitcase away. All she needs is one more successful project, which seems simple until a certain cowboy walks into her public hearing in Marietta, Montana.

Sam Miles has his hands full overseeing the Flying J ranch and being a single dad. But when he learns there are plans to drop some swanky resort on the land next door, he will do all he can to block the project—a task that would be infinitely easier without Natalie’s megawatt smile.

They’re soon exchanging playful barbs, neither willing to give an inch on which goal should take priority for the town. Then news of an endangered species habitat on the development site threatens to jeopardize the resort’s progress, and Sam and Natalie team up to protect both their livelihoods—and try not to get their hearts broken along the way.

Choosing the Montana Cowboy begins The Miles of Montana series, set in one of my all-time favorite fictional small towns, Marietta, Montana.  Determined city girl, Natalie, is about to meet one stubborn country cowboy, Sam, as the project she’s been sent to Marietta, Montana, to oversee is about to have its first debut to this small town’s residents.  To say that many are upset and outraged about the planned luxury resort being plopped down in ranch country would be a vast understatement.  There are also underlying reasons that were not made clear to Natalie’s company (or that they ignored), which will make this project almost impossible to complete… if it’s addressed in the right way.  Adversaries turned allies will make the sparks of attraction that are flying between Sam and Natalie turn this project on its heels, and perhaps, give two passionate people the love of a lifetime if they’ll take a few risks and open their hearts to each other.

I enjoyed Natalie and Sam’s story so much, and adored Sam’s daughter, Madison.  There is a bit of world-building, there has to be in the opening story of a series, yet it all fell together naturally as we meet the people of this community as they face down a corporation, save an endangered species of ferrets, and fall in love, unexpectedly.  There is an additional character in this story, one who may not have an actual voice but is important to resolving the conflict between Sam and Natalie… Montana, Big Sky Country.  Sam will introduce Nat to the beauty of the place he loves and calls home, to the ranches, how his spread works alongside his neighbor’s, and how this community already has a resort (his family’s) set beneath the shadow of Copper Mountain.  The beauty of the countryside, the natural habitat of animals (including one endangered species) will speak volumes to Natalie…and soon have her working hard to stop the project that recently meant everything she wanted for her career.  Soon, that promised promotion won’t hold a candle to the life that Sam and Nat can create here, on this land, together.

If you love starting a new series, a new adventure in a fictional town that is rich in history, a couple who really do belong together, with the promise of more delectable stories to come based on the people we’ve met here, well, then you’ll fall in love with Choosing the Montana Cowboy by Kyra Jacobs.  I’m really looking forward to the rest of this series.

I own a Kindle edition of this title.
