She’s a no-nonsense cowgirl. He’s Hollywood charm with a second shot. But this Christmas in Texas, the heart might be the biggest wildcard.
Former barrel racer Riley Garrett is a sixth-generation Texan and a lifelong cowgirl. She’s kicked the unfortunate blip of her failed wedding into the dust, is happy running her family’s ranch, and prospering in more ways than one. So when a smooth-talking, far too handsome outsider unexpectedly arrives in Last Stand during the holidays full of starry schemes he says will help her family and ranch along with the town, Riley’s beyond skeptical.
Producer Miles Flint is a Hollywood success by any measure, even though his biggest hit imploded when his star quit to build a new life with his young son in a small town in Texas. He cut his losses and moved on until he was given a second chance to reboot his hit show the way he originally wanted to do it. No compromises.
But convincing a stubborn cowgirl who’s distractingly fascinating that he can be trusted is going to take all of his persuasive powers plus the magic of a Hill Country Christmas to find a hit happy ever after for both of them.

Christmas with the Cowgirl is the fourth title in the Home at Last Texas series. (Is this the final story in the series? I don’t know, yet in many ways it felt that way, but time will tell). It presents us with Riley and Miles in a romance full of intense attraction, an age gap, a few misunderstandings, and a couple’s love story that seems like a lovely Christmas gift all wrapped up in a pretty bow. Although it is Christmas time in Last Stand, Texas, I wouldn’t classify this one as a “Christmas Romance”, more a story set in the holiday season… either way, it’s a powerful and emotional story.
Miles has traveled to Last Stand to visit with his friend and former star of his hit television show, Jackson, his son, Jeremy, and catch up with Tucker, a former stuntman for Jackson on the series. It’s Jeremy’s birthday, and although the kid might have just gotten the best gift ever, Miles is thinking that the gift-bearer just might be an unforeseen gift to himself as the attraction to Riley hits him hard and fast. Too bad that Riley isn’t on board with that instant attraction thing.
Riley is fine on her own; she has a lot on her plate right now, and no city boy with big plans is going to sweet-talk her into something that will never go anywhere. As a former barrel racing champion, Riley now trains horses at her family ranch… and she’s never going to leave, and Mr. Hollywood Producer has big city written all over him. Yet, there is that spark between them that Riley cannot deny. After being left at the altar, Riley has huge trust issues, and initially, she doesn’t trust Miles as far as she could toss him. One misunderstanding will put a fast stop to anything that might have been developing between them, unless Miles can let her see his true intentions. Watching the love developing between Miles and Riley, seeing walls begin to tumble only to have them slammed back into place by one misconstrued action, was an emotional journey. This is a couple who truly belong together, yet they have some issues to sort out before that happy ever after ending can happen.
I enjoyed Christmas with the Cowgirl so much. It is well-written, emotional, engaging, and has so many familiar faces from other series to get caught up with that I was easily swept away by Riley and Miles as they found a way to that happy ending they both deserved. I’ve loved this series, and would not hesitate one second to recommend not only this story but the entire series to any romance reader who loves believable, relatable couples combined with great storytelling.
