To forestall the inevitable scandal, he hires widowed Prudence Whittaker to teach his sister how to be a lady – never expecting he’d become hungry for a few lessons of his own.

Outwardly prim, Pru is adept at keeping would-be suitors at bay. She has to if she wants to keep her secret. But all the drab colors and careful manners in the world will not hide her abundant charms from this determined Highlander.

Read on for my thoughts on How To Wed A Warrior.  No true spoilers, promise.

Mary Elizabeth is at it again, and this time she’s about to cause a major scandal if her brother, Robbie cannot find a way to control the wayward lass… otherwise known as his sister.  When a very prim and proper Englishwoman steps in to save the day, at least temporarily, Robbie’s interest is quick to keep this lovely lady hiding in ugly clothing around.  Hiring Pru to teach his sister the fine art of being a lady, heaven help them on that, will be a twofold success in his opinion.  It betters the chances of marrying off the little spitfire, and it gives him time to unravel the mysteries surrounding the lady with her drab frocks.

Prudence cannot believe her luck – good or bad, depending on how one considers this day.  She may have saved a young girl from social scandal when the girl drew a sword on a member of the ton, a man who long ago, before her own family scandal she was to marry.  She also found herself hired by the handsome Highlander to school his sister in the art of becoming a lady, or at least less of a hellion.  Pru desperately needed the funds that this position could provide, but would she be able to keep her secrets safe and not harm these trusting people.

How To Marry A Warrior is a charming story of finding love and happiness where you least expect it.  Prudence had her life turned upside down by a family scandal she had nothing personally to do with – but she was painted with the same brush simply by having the same name.  In order to survive she needs a profession, governess or companion, but she must also become very good at hiding in plain sight among people of the ton who might recognize her.  So a severe hairstyle, colorless gowns that hid far more than they revealed, spectacles that she had no need of and a change in demeanor – all of this, hopefully, will change a natural beauty into someone who most of the self contained ton will overlook.  Only Robert Waters could care less about English society’s idiosyncrasies, in his opinion most of them are idiots anyway.  But there is a mystery in the lady he’s hired to transform his sister.  And the longer he’s around Pru the less things add up… and the more interested he becomes.

I enjoyed Pru and Robbie’s adventure in romance very much.  And have we, perhaps met Mary Elizabeth’s match?  Only time will tell.  If you love a Highlander Romance then this man will melt your heart.  I would recommend How To Wed A Warrior to any Historical Romance reader, it’s a solid, entertaining story with laughter, tears and love found.
