Review: My Stepbrother the Groom by Lexi Maxxwell

My Stepbrother The GroomTitle:  My Stepbrother the Groom
Series:
Author:  Lexi Maxxwell
Genre:  Contemporary Romance
Published:  March 23, 2015
Publisher:
My Rating:  4 stars
Source:  NetGalley
Cover Description:

He’d be perfect if he wasn’t getting married … and if he wasn’t about to become her stepbrother.

Romantic humor has never been so deliciously tempting.

It’s been a rough day for Ella Roberts.

First, her social-climbing mother Valerie dragged her to yet another wedding — something that always reminds Ella that real life offers few happily-ever-afters.

Second, Valerie’s goal isn’t to have fun at the event, but to schmooze clients for the family wedding business that Ella’s hated forever.

And third (after too much wine, and being mocked by her black sheep sister for “letting Mom bind you with her bitch chains”), Ella gets a text from her latest disposable boyfriend, Chase:NOT WORKING OUT. SORRY. I HAVE YOUR GYM SHOES.

But things are finally looking up. The handsome, charming, successful man Ella meets at the bar fills her with flutters and makes everything better. Gazing into Nathan Hayes’s kind blue eyes, Ella can almost believe that love at first sight is true after all.

It’s too bad that in just two months, Ella’s mother will be marrying Nathan’s father … in a double wedding with Nathan and his fiancée Natasha.

She should run from her feelings for Nathan. She should back away and find a new mediocre man to amuse her. But Ella’s been unlucky in love too many times to ignore what she feels … and so for Ella, “taboo” turns to “game on” instead.

Musing Mondays #6

Posted July 20, 2015 by Marsha in This one's a Keeper / 2 Comments

open book and pink flowerMusing Monday is hosted by MizB at A Daily Rhythm.

Musing Mondays is a weekly meme that asks you to choose one of the following prompts to answer:

  • I’m currently reading…
  • Up next I think I’ll read…
  • I bought the following book(s) in the past week…
  • I’m super excited to tell you about (book/author/bookish-news)…
  • I’m really upset by (book/author/bookish-news)…
  • I can’t wait to get a copy of…
  • I wish I could read ___, but…
  • I blogged about ____ this past week…

My prompt for this week is:  I bought the following book(s) in the past week…

For some reason Christmas in July was on my mind a lot last week.  Thinking about the Christmas novels I’ve loved and read again every Christmas season – and deciding how I’m going to put together my Christmas reading and reviewing for this year.  I have a small bookcase full of past Christmas seasonal stories.  Yes, I tend to collect them and re-read favorites as time allows.  How many of those older, beloved stories do I review or simply read for myself is one thought that keeps going through my mind.

Of course when books come to mind I head over to Amazon and on a lark looked for 1-Click “free” or Kindle Unlimited novels… holy candy canes, Batman there’s a ton of them.  I picked out ten that sound promising.  I really do need to come up with a plan now, ‘cos time will fly by and I’d like to get those reviews in “saved” mode at least.  Because I know me – I’ll be on the lookout for new Christmas novels as soon as Halloween is past.

Hmmm… Halloween.  Now where did I store those themed novels?  *sheepish grin*

Are favorite Christmas / Seasonal stories part of your traditions?

THIS WEEK’S QUESTION:  Are you able to read while in a vehicle (in motion)? Have you always been this way?

Yes.  For over 15 years I worked in downtown Pittsburgh and lived in a suburb about half an hour out… and we all know that morning or evening rush hour adds on considerable time to that commute.  So I’m an old pro at reading in motion.  I don’t like sitting on the bus or trolley sideways, but even in that uncomfortable situation it never slowed down my reading.  At that time my main time for reading was on the commute and lunch hours.  The things we do to continue a good story.  🙂
