Wedding planner Avery Crosslin may be a rising star in Houston society, but she doesn’t believe in love–at least not for herself. When she meets wealthy bachelor Joe Travis and mistakes him for a wedding photographer, she has no intention of letting him sweep her off her feet. But Joe is a man who goes after what he wants, and Avery can’t resist the temptation of a sexy southern charmer and a hot summer evening.

After a one night stand, however, Avery is determined to keep it from happening again. A man like Joe can only mean trouble for a woman like her, and she can’t afford distractions. She’s been hired to plan the wedding of the year–a make-or-break event.

But complications start piling up fast, putting the wedding in jeopardy, especially when shocking secrets of the bride come to light. And as Joe makes it clear that he’s not going to give up easily, Avery is forced to confront the insecurities and beliefs that stem from a past she would do anything to forget.

The situation reaches a breaking point, and Avery faces the toughest choice of her life. Only by putting her career on the line and risking everything–including her well-guarded heart–will she find out what matters most.

Read on for my thoughts on Brown-Eyed Girl.  No true spoilers, promise.

Brown-Eyed Girl is a delightful, charming, sexy and totally satisfying wrap-up to the Travis Family series (I think this would be the end, but we never know).  It was a long wait for Joe’s story, but so worth the wait.

Actually, the story description that started this review really tells you everything you need to know about deciding to pick this story up.  In fact, it probably tells you more than I would have in a teaser, so you lucked out.  🙂

Avery and Joe’s love story is all about trust.  Learning to trust someone enough to give them your heart.  Trusting yourself enough to be secure in the decisions you make today – not what happened to you in the past.  It’s not easy to trust again when you’ve been destroyed and betrayed before – as Joe is coming to understand.  Avery will lead him a merry chase and no one, not even Avery herself knows for sure if Joe will catch her in the end.  Joe has already fallen, now it’s up to Avery to trust them both enough to let go of the past.

It was such fun to run into characters from the past novels – kind of a catching up on where they are today feeling.

Brown-Eyed Girl was an emotional and, at times, frustrating roller coaster ride.  A well told tale, this one I would recommend for readers who have enjoyed the stories of the other Travis family members or for those that simply enjoy a satisfying love story that has punch and pizazz.

*I received an e-ARC of Brown-Eyed Girl from the publisher and NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. That does not change what I think of this novel.*

I will be completely honest here – if I had not been privileged to have been allowed an ARC of this story through NetGalley I am not sure that I would have paid the Kindle price for this story – as fantastic as it is.  I probably would have added it to my wish list at my local library and read it when it became my turn.  It is not my intent to influence you, but I personally feel that the asking price for an e-reader copy is too high for my normal budget. When I could buy 3-4 e-books for the price of one… I will hesitate.

Available in hardback, paperback and for the Kindle
