Synopsis:
She’s in a long-term, committed relationship. With her business.
In three years Madeline Spencer has single-handedly grown her marketing agency, Grounded Marketing, into one of the country’s fastest growing companies. But her success has been at the expense of her social life, and her girlfriends have had enough. They’ll do whatever it takes, from speed dating to blind dates, to show her there’s more to life than work.
Only Maddy is having a hard time forgetting about her business. She’s about to pitch for her biggest client ever and the mysterious media mogul, Paul Neilsen, has volunteered to mentor her. Maddy might just be in with a shot of landing the account – if she can keep her mind on the job. Working with Paul is not at all what she’d imagined, and Maddy finds herself torn between her ever increasing workload and her feelings for Paul. She’s discovering playing in the big league means making sacrifices … and Maddy must decide what she can’t live without.
Read on for my thoughts on The Pitch. No true spoilers, promise.
Maddy doesn’t have time for romance, she doesn’t even have time for a date, let alone a relationship. She’s already married – to her company, Grounded Marketing. But her friends feel she needs something, well, more human to wrap her arms around. So the speed dating and blind dates start with little success and even less interest on Maddy’s part.
There is something more important on Maddy’s mind than dating. She will soon be facing a huge client possibility for her company. She needs to be sharp, focused and prepared to woo them and win them with everything she can do for them – should they choose Grounded Marketing. And why shouldn’t they? It’s an amazing company – but she’s not hesitant to grab some help to make that dream a reality.
Enter Paul Neilsen onto the scene. Paul is at the top of the big leagues as far as business goes, and he’s Maddy’s mentor for this particular project. With his help, teaching and business magic, she has a good chance to land this client. But it’s going to mean a lot of work and working closely with Paul.
Business and romance don’t mix. Right? Not necessarily true. The attraction between Maddy and Paul is definitely there, even if there is an age difference between them. Age is a number, not a person. Now Maddy has to decide what is more important, the man she loves or the company she’s worked so hard to build.
I enjoyed The Pitch very much. While I don’t care about a person’s age (I care more about what the person is like), it is very true that age does matter to some people. Especially the people in the relationship. Paul had issues with the age gap between them. Reasonable ones, not insurmountable ones but for him they were very real. I felt the differences between Paul and Maddy were handled very realistically.
Maddy has to find the way to have it all – the company she created and loves, as well as the man who has become very important to her. It’s a battle that women the world over have faced. But somehow, we manage it. Maddy will too. And we get to follow along as Paul and Maddy work out how to create their own happy ever after. That is a journey you do not want to miss.
I would recommend The Pitch for anyone who enjoys a good love story, to see a couple grow together in spite of their differences and just loves to sit back and escape into a really good story for awhile. Pick this one up and enjoy.
*I received an e-ARC of The Pitch from the publisher and NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. That does not change what I think of this novel.*
~Any review is just one person’s opinion. You might feel the same or totally different. The only way to know for certain is for you to read it. This was my opinion of this particular book.~
