Still a Cowboy is the second title in the multi-author series, Wild Rose Point.  I’m loving this series where several of my favorite Harlequin authors have come together to write about a small town in Oregon with, well, a bit of a spooky vibe.  Will we always see ghosts? Who knows?  But we’ll always have fun with that slightly mystical touch to these stories.

Cal has made a quick decision to visit the town where his high school sweetheart lives and recover from an injury caused by an angry bull.  Cal is Texas from his hat to his boots to his drawl, and he doesn’t believe in curses or soulmate legends any more than he could toss that bull he lost the fight with.  Tell that to this quirky community that immediately has him set up with a local saloon owner, Willa.  Or maybe tell Call, cos this lady has more of his attention than that once-upon-a-time girlfriend of his.  When weird things start happening, and a scandal threatens their growing relationship, Cal will stop at nothing until he finds the culprit and protects the woman who is coming to mean a lot to him.

Willa has no time for love or cowboys, especially cowboys.  That stupid promotional “legend” her grandmother made up (she thinks) has her and this stranger right in the crosshairs, where she does not want to be.  Okay, maybe the cowboy’s handsome, but he’s also connected to a local girl, and Willa does not take second place, ever.  Cal and the town are starting to wear down her resistance as the odd things begin to happen, and before she knows it, the scandal and the danger are right at her front door.

I had fun with Still a Cowboy.  Two extremely stubborn people, attracted to each other but resisting, and some serious, mysterious shenanigans going on, made for an entertaining addition to the series.  Their story is well-written and emotional, with a mystery/spooky vibe, and a couple who, legend or not, do belong together.  If you love your cowboy romances served with a side of soulmate legends and mysteries, then you’d enjoy Cal and Willa’s story.
