In Bentwood Creek, a broken vow leads to an unexpected promise.
Hayden Bennett is done with love. After being left at the altar, the Montana rancher returned home determined to protect his heart and honor his grandfather’s final wishes. But dividing the family ranch five ways, managing a wandering grandmother, and holding everything together alone is more than even a stubborn cowboy can handle.
Single mom Eve Atkinson is done with marriage, too. Recently divorced and rebuilding her life in Bentwood Creek, the licensed vocational nurse is juggling long shifts, a spirited toddler, and an ex-husband who uses custody threats to control her future. Becoming a registered nurse feels like a dream she may never reach.
When childhood friends Hayden and Eve strike a marriage-of-convenience bargain, it solves more than one problem. She gains stability and protection. He gains the help he desperately needs.
But sharing a home brings buried feelings to the surface. What begins as a practical arrangement soon tests their guarded hearts.
Titles in the Bennetts of Bentwood Creek series include: The Cowboy’s Accidental Bride ~
This is a no-spice romance, perhaps with closed-door or fade-to-black scenes. Tension and kisses might be involved.

My Rating: 4.5 stars
I don’t think there has ever been a Melinda Curtis story I’ve read that I didn’t, at the very least, enjoy; and most often simply loved. She delivers characters that I can relate to, situations that feel real, filled with laughter and tears, and possibilities. So, it’s an understatement to say that I jumped on the chance to read The Cowboy’s Accidental Bride, which begins the Bennetts of Bentwood Creek series… in a small town near my favorite fictional town of all time, Marietta, Montana. So, yeah. I was one happy reader!
Hayden is frankly just trying to keep his head above water, doing his best to survive. He’s back home after years away to settle his grandfather’s estate, which means dividing it up among his brothers and himself, and tending to the ranch itself. Along with that chore comes the very real concern for his grandmother’s fading memory, especially when she manages to wander off and needs closer supervision. He needs help, but no, he’s not putting himself out on the romance market to get that help. Being jilted at the altar will make a man suspicious of this so-called wonderful emotion, love… been there, not going through that pain again. But fate is about to drop the answer right into his lap (so to speak) when the younger sister of his former fianceé impulsively claims Hayden as her fiancé in front of her controlling, bullying ex-husband, who is trying to rip custody of their daughter out of her hands…well, he didn’t exactly disagree on the spot.
Eve has moved to Bentwood Creek for a fresh start with her four-year-old daughter, Katie. Her controlling ex-husband is throwing his weight around, still trying to destroy anything she does… this time, a custody battle. Eve had met up with Hayden, a friend (and yes, former fiancé of her older sister, Vi), when her ex showed up. She desperately said that Hayden was her fianceé and that she and Katie would be living on his ranch, and there was nothing the ex could do about it. Hayden’s reaction was expected, as in no way, no how. Yet, it soon became apparent that a marriage of convenience would benefit them both… and maybe it could grow into something neither expected but desperately needed, that one person who fit perfectly into their lives.
I loved everything about The Cowboy’s Accidental Bride. It’s well-written and so emotional, with characters who leap off the page and face real-life situations that need answers. There are other things happening at the ranch, including his brother, Rhett, returning with his daughters… an interesting development I’m sure we’ll learn more about as the series continues. Watching Hayden slowly lower the emotional walls he’s built for his protection as they begin to crumble was an emotional journey. Katie stole every scene she was in, and Hayden’s grandmother’s situation felt realistic. In all, this is an excellent start to the new series. If you enjoy a romance that feels like it could be happening to a friend, with realistic people and situations to face, then you’d love Hayden and Eve’s romance. I’m definitely looking forward to the rest of this series.
