Crispin, the Duke of Hurst, has never met a woman he couldn’t handle–until he’s hit over the head with a basketful of mistletoe by a young lady who mistakes his intentions. When he gets into a tussle with her–and she can hold her own–Crispin knows he has finally met his match.
Miss Gwen Prim is mortified that she attacked a duke, but even more concerning is the way her resolve melts when she’s near him. She’s never felt this way about a London gentleman in her life. And with the magic of Christmas in the air, she may end up with a proposal she didn’t expect.
Read on for my thoughts on The Duke and Miss Christmas. No true spoilers, promise.
If you have been following Ms Grey’s series The Heirs’ Club of Scoundrels then you will definitely want to pick up this Christmas offering about an ousted Duke from The Heirs’ Club – and no need to fret if you haven’t the faintest clue about the rest of the series… The Duke and Miss Christmas is a delightful tale that will make your Christmas season just a bit brighter.
it is unfortunately often true that no good deed goes without punishment – and Crispin knows this for a fact. All he intended was to help an injured young lady by the side of the road who was obviously in distress. What he got for his kindness was clouted with a basket of mistletoe from an outraged, beautiful, charming hellcat. So maybe it wasn’t all that bad of a thing for the Duke of Hurst after all.
There is no way that Gwen will allow that scoundrel to accost her sister and does not hesitate for one second to jump in and give him a taste of his own medicine. It was beside the point the he was a fit, strong opponent, or that Sybil has obviously escaped on horseback, she would not back down.
Once Gwen realizes her mistake and the identity of the man she’d attacked she is somewhat mortified, but still proud enough to not give way and will return his teasing comments with more of her own. She’s attracted to Crispin in spite of herself. While he may be a Duke there is still a touch of scandal attached to his name, until she knows for certain if she can truly trust him she will do her best to keep him at arm’s length. I said “her best”, that doesn’t mean that she always succeeded.
The Duke and Miss Christmas is a quick read, but that does not mean that there isn’t a delightful holiday story packed within this short story. Crispin and Gwen have a charming love story to tell. And I’m certain that anyone who enjoys Regency Romance or Christmas stories will find this to be a story to add to the Christmas reading list. I enjoyed this Christmas Romance very much and would highly recommend it to anyone who simply loves a good romance, no matter the length of the story.
*I received an e-ARC of The Duke and Miss Christmas from the publisher and NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. That does not change what I think of this novel.*
