Trying to get over a broken heart, twenty-four-year-old teacher Jet Diekerhof takes a gap year to travel and have an adventure. Her practical farming family is horrified until Jet’s older sister, Harley, gets her a long-term sub position at a one-room schoolhouse in Montana’s Paradise Valley. Jet’s grateful it’s 775 miles from her overly involved family—and the guy who broke her heart. She’s also sworn off men until meeting darkly handsome Shane Swan changes everything…
Thirty-four-year-old Shane Swan has been an outsider since birth. Raised by his maternal grandmother near Flathead Lake, Montana, until her death when he was four, meant he ended up in foster care. But ever smart, determined, and ambitious, Shane has become one of the most successful writers in America. Yet none of his successes has answered the burning question: why was he the one given away, and his brothers kept? Now Shane has moved to Marietta to unravel the secrets and lies and what it means to be a Sheenan, and nobody is closer to the Sheenans than Brock’s young sister-in-law, Jet.
Normally, Shane would never use a woman, but if Jet can connect him with the keys to his past, he doesn’t seem to have a choice. Until he begins to fall for her. Can two strangers, who were never meant to be, believe in love again?

Title: The Lost Sheenan
Series: Taming of the Sheenans #5
Author: Jane Porter
Published: July 8, 2016
Publisher: Tule Publishing
My Rating: 4.5 stars
Update 2025: The Taming of the Sheenans series has recently had a cover change/update. The story within hasn’t changed, and neither has my opinion of this emotional romance. My original review of The Lost Sheenan (original title The Lost Sheenan’s Bride) was in 2016; a decade later, I still enjoyed this story and actually love both covers. *shrugs with a smile*
The Lost Sheenan is the sixth and final title in the Taming of the Sheenans series, featuring Jet and Shane. (Jet is Harley’s younger sister from the first title) Absolutely, anything you’d need to know before picking up this one can be found in the Cover Description. I find that I don’t want to spoil anything about this remarkable romance; you should experience it firsthand. It is amazing.
If you’ve read the Taming of the Sheenans series. Or really any of the Marietta, Montana books, you know that the Sheenan family is full of pride, stubbornness, and loyalty to the family. They are a tight-knit force to be reckoned with. And I have loved and completely enjoyed each and every story along the way to this one – the final Sheenan story. Oh, maybe-hopefully, we’ll get a holiday reunion story one day and catch up on the family. Heck, maybe someday we’ll read about their kids’ romances. But for now, this is it.
And I have to say with utter honesty and heartfelt gratitude to Ms Porter – Thank you. You’ve saved the absolute best for last.
Jet and Shane’s love story is beautiful and touching. But they aren’t the true focus of this story. Family is. Finding out the truth is. Making things right is.
If you can read The Lost Sheenan without crying, then you, my friend, are a much stronger person than I am. And that’s all I’m going to say.
If you’ve followed the series, then you need to experience this totally for yourself. You don’t need my words; you need their story.
Do you love anything (any story) that’s even slightly connected to Marietta, Montana? Yeah, me too. Be sure to visit our Marietta, Montana pages (this link to where this series is located – there are three pages :)) to catch up on the series that you might have missed over time. It’s quite an amazing and diverse community, with happily ever after endings guaranteed.
