Just one look  …shattered her life.

It was worse than the date from hell.

Teacher Leah Gerard waited hours for the man…until she saw his bloody body being dragged away. Did she imagine it? The police believe she did, as there’s no body to corroborate her story.

Then Leah becomes their prime murder suspect. Determined to find the truth, Leah hires ace investigator Owen Walker, who delves into every possibility while protecting —and captivating—Leah.

But when her longtime roommate disappears, troubling questions and danger follow.

Who wants Leah charged with murder? And who wants her dead?

Witness to Murder is the fourth title in the Colby Agency: The Next Generation series.  This time, featuring Owen, as he is hired to investigate a puzzling and frightening situation for a grad student who knows she witnessed a murder, but… there’s no body, and with her roommate now missing, the police are convinced Leah is guilty. How could one first date turn her life upside down like this?  Obviously, someone is targeting Leah to frame her for murder and more, but why?  Owen will turn over every clue until he finds out who is out to destroy Leah, not only because it’s his job… but Leah has become so much more in his life, and no one messes with Owen’s woman.

From the very beginning, Witness to Murder captured my imagination.  Sometimes it’s so easy to put myself in a character’s shoes and wonder, “What the heck is going on with my life right now?!”  She hadn’t even wanted to go on that stupid first date, and look where it got her?  Owen is protective, stubborn, and determined to get to the bottom of this mess.  Along the way, they’ll run into lies, misdirections, and seemingly impossible evidence to disprove.  Yet, they’ll also find a bond between them that slowly grows into more than a bodyguard/client situation. Now, this is personal for Owen, and he won’t stop until the truth is found.

I enjoyed Witness to Murder by Debra Webb.  It’s well-written, emotional, and filled with red herrings, twists, and turns that you won’t always see coming.  Although the romance side might have felt a little lighter to me, that didn’t take away from the fact that these two people are falling for each other, and that relationship works.  If you love figuring out puzzles, then you’d enjoy Leah and Owen’s story.
