Story Blurb:

Mary Fleming and John Bexley are the “white sheep’ of their large families, written off as hapless, boring—and thus suitable for each other. But they’re no sooner married than John is sent off on a two-year diplomatic mission.

Upon his return, John and Mary find that everything they thought they knew about each other is wrong. They’ve changed radically during the long separation. They have to start all over. It’s surprising, irritating—and somehow very exciting…

FeatureFollowParaAlisonGain new followers and make new friends with the Book Blogger Feature & Follow! If this is your first time here, welcome! You are about to make some new friends and gain new followers — but you have to know — the point of this hop is to follow other bloggers also. I follow you, you follow me.

The Feature & Follow is hosted by TWO hosts, Parajunkee of Parajunkee’s View and  Alison of Alison Can Read. Each host will have their own Feature Blog and this way it’ll allow us to show off more new blogs!

This week’s Feature Blog is:  Mischievous Reads  and  Diane’s Book Blog.  Be sure to check out their blogs and give them a Follow (if you aren’t already).  🙂

Because this blog does not have the ability to put up GFC I would appreciate a follow through Bloglovin’.  Thanks so much.

This week’s question:

Do you have any furry friends? Share a picture!

I share an apartment with one son, two cats and at last count 37 fishies.  Do they all count?  😉

Okay, okay – so the fish are out, but here are my two cats.

Charlie- who is now 18 years old.  Our grey striped, tabby cat – who rules the house, even though his run is now more like a stroll.  He has the unblinking “My water dish is empty, Human!”  stare down to a Oscar winning performance.

Charlie

And Leia – who is about to turn 3 (but shall never outgrow her terrible 2’s stage, I’m convinced.)  Leia is an Alpha cat wannabe, but despite her size (she’s double the size of Charlie) the true ruler only needs to do a one side of the mouth snarl in Leia’s direction and she falls down and exposes her belly to be washed or scratched.  *rolls eyes*  Cats and their dynamics gotta love ’em.

Leia 10

So what are you waiting fo?  Here’s the Hop – get hoppin’.  🙂

Today has been a day of memories.  This song always makes me cry.  From the 1992 movie Pure Country, here’s George Strait singing I Cross My Heart. — tell me you didn’t tear up, just a  little.

Thirsty Thursday & Hungry Hearts #2

Posted March 5, 2015 by Marsha in This one's a Keeper / 2 Comments

unConventionalBookViews_Meme-ThirstyThursdayHungryHeartsThere is a fun new meme going on over at (un)Conventional  Book Views.  Lexxie is hosting the Thirsty Thursday & Hungry Hearts weekly list of food and drink.  ;)  More specifically what food or drink from a recent read of yours would you like to try or never in a million years touch.  You can find details, sorta rules and the sign up linky by clicking on the graphic or on the bold link above.

I have been trying so hard to be aware of food while reading.  It is turning into a more difficult habit to cultivate than I thought it would.  But, I’m working on it.

So I finally have one for this week.

After ordering a chocolate martini, I drank about half of it before I felt eyes on the back of my neck.  My body stiffened as the scent of cinnamon reached my sensitive nose.  With all the smells of the food it was a wonder that I could pick up on the slight tang in the air.  A smile crossed my lips quickly before I was able to control it and erase it from my lips. ~ from My Blood Runs Blue by Stacy Eaton.

My Blood Runs Blue

A paranormal romance reissue that I recently picked up.  A lovely tale of vampires and reincarnation which talks a lot about scents and smells.  Seems cinnamon is a common scent among vampires.  *laughs*  I’ve never had a chocolate martini – no clue what it would taste like.  I should find out, huh?

But when her family asks her to temporarily help their Dare Valley, Colorado newspaper, she decides it’s time to change her life and prove her ex wrong. She’s determined to find her own small-town Nora Roberts hero, prove that true love exists, and publish a story about her quest.

His assignment? Make his boss’s ex-wife fall for him and then break her heart. Her article about discovering love à la Nora might air dirty laundry about her marriage to the media mogul, threatening his senate run. The mogul wants Meredith stopped, and he makes sure Tanner has no choice in the matter.

When the two meet, the sparks between them are undeniable. Meredith, who vowed never to date another journalist, begins to succumb. Could Tanner be her Nora Roberts hero? Waiting on Wednesday #7

Posted March 4, 2015 by Marsha in This one's a Keeper / 14 Comments

Waiting on Wednesday“Waiting on” Wednesday is a weekly event, hosted by Jill at Breaking The Spine, that spotlights upcoming releases that we’re eagerly anticipating.

I am such a fan of Jayne Ann Krentz and her historical alter-ego, Amanda Quick.

Garden of Lies is due out on April 15, 2015.  Definitely looking forward to another Quick trip back in history.

Garden of Lies USAThe Kern Secretarial Agency provides reliable professional services to its wealthy clientele, and Anne Clifton was one of the finest women in Ursula Kern’s employ. But Miss Clifton has met an untimely end – and Ursula is convinced it was not due to natural causes.

Archaeologist and adventurer Slater Roxton thinks Mrs. Kern is off her head to meddle in such dangerous business. Nevertheless, he seems sensible enough to Ursula, though she does find herself unnerved by his self-possession and unreadable green-gold eyes…

If this mysterious widowed beauty insists on stirring the pot, Slater intends to remain close by as they venture into the dark side of polite society. Together they must reveal the identity of a killer – and to achieve their goal they may need to reveal their deepest secrets to each other as well…

Isn’t it funny how different countries end up with different covers.  After giving it serious consideration I think I actually like the United Kingdom cover better.   It speaks more of mystery, murder and mayhem to me… in my opinion, anyway. 🙂Garden of Lies

Teaser Tuesday #6

Posted March 3, 2015 by Marsha in This one's a Keeper / 14 Comments

teaser tuesdayOne of the fun parts of taking part in blog hops (aside from getting to visit new to me blogs) is finding great ways to interact with other book lovers.  This is one:

Teaser Tuesdays is a weekly bookish meme, hosted by MizB of Should Be Reading.

Anyone can play along! Just do the following:

• Grab your current read
• Open to a random page
• Share two (2) “teaser” sentences from somewhere on that page
• BE CAREFUL NOT TO INCLUDE SPOILERS! (make sure that what you share doesn’t give too much away! You don’t want to ruin the book for others!)
• Share the title & author, too, so that other TT participants can add the book to their TBR Lists if they like your teasers!

Just a reminder – MizB will be moving her site to a new self-hosted one on March 9th… check her site for more information.
