Experience the story of The Nightingale through a steampunk landscape, or follow Rapunzel through sci-fi adventures. There is the modern woman who steps out of her front door and into the fairy tale realm, and there is the modern woman who’s life resembles a fairy tale – one involving a slipper. Maybe you’d like to find out just who that Big Bad Wolf was and why he was so interested in Red, or maybe you’d like to go behind the scenes and see what those fairy godmothers are up to while everyone is getting their Happily Ever After.

Read on for my thoughts on Once Upon A Fairy Tale: A Collection.  No true spoilers, promise.

Goodness.  Now how does one go about reviewing this interesting collection.  I love when authors retell a fairy tale.  These are classics from generations ago and from around the world – but the retelling is always a fun adventure to me.

So, we have:

What Big Teeth You Have by Jennifer Blackstream

— a vampire take on a old beloved tale – part of the Blood Prince series.  I adored this part of Kirill and Irina’s story.  Vampires, witches, wolves and demons all in one place,  This retelling of Red Riding Hood is full of charm, quite a few chuckles from me and a really good story within the retelling.  Enough so that I find that I’ll be searching out Before Midnight and One Bite to get the entirety of this series.  I’ve definitely found another author to follow – when really good stories come along I don’t want to lose track of the author who gave them to me.  I really enjoyed this one.  Thank you to Ms. Blackstream for this one.

Snow’s Salvation by Cate Dean

– I loved this retelling of Snow White.  With just enough changes to make it a different tale, but all of the enjoyment of the original.

Braided Silk by Ella Drake

Firebird Sweet by Elise Logan

Love After Midnight by Dee Carney

Runespell by Sela Carsen

After The Stroke of Midnight by Jennifer Lewis

Kiss The Frog by Cate Rowan

A Happily Ever After of Her Own by Madia Lee

Loving A Fairy Godmother by Danielle Monsch

The Warlord and the Nightingale by Jeannie Lin

And I know it’s horrid of me, but to review every one of the 11 tales would indeed take away your enjoyment of reading them firsthand.  You should read every single story in this retelling of much beloved fairy tales.  Each one gives a unique spin that is enjoyable, funny, captivating – and some you’ll just laugh out loud.  Really, you will.

I truly enjoyed these short tales.  I cannot think of one reason to not pick this up and be transported back into the fairy tales of your youth – each with a delightful twist.

For the fun factor alone this one gets a 4 outta 5 rating from me.  My thanks to each of the authors for brightening my day just a bit by letting me into their fairy tale worlds.

*I received an e-ARC of Once Upon A Fairy Tale: A Collection of 11 Fairy Tale Inspired Romances from the publisher and NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. That does not change what I think of this novel.*

Right now this collection is available at Amazon for a mere dollar (well, 99 cents, but it’s the same thing really)  Go on, it’s just a dollar for a few hours of enjoyment that you can return to time after time.
