Story Blurb:
One Demon.
One Angel.
One Soul.
Josh lived a reckless, selfish life, so upon his death, escaping the eternal torments of Hell by assuming the role of a powerful, soul-corrupting demon is an easy choice. His first soul assignment doesn’t seem too hard: the mortal Camden is already obsessed with weapons, pain, and torture. If only Josh wasn’t distracted by Cam’s beautiful friend, Grace.
Grace never expected to die violently at age sixteen, but now she’s an Angel, responsible for saving a soul. She can already see past Camden’s earthly flaws, so the job should be be easy. If only that handsome, playboy Josh would stop getting in the way.
It’s forbidden for an Angel to be with a Demon, so if Josh and Grace stop resisting each other, the results would be disastrous.
And only one can claim Cam’s soul.
Read on for my thoughts on Soul Crossed. No true spoilers, promise.
Can I just say from the very start – I cannot remember ever despising a character more than Camden. Ever.
I’m not going to go too deeply into a tease here because for the entire impact of the novel I honestly believe it has to be read to be fully appreciated. I can tell you that it is charming, sad, and so damned deep and terrifying at times. Not the “Oh look it’s a monster!” type of terrifying. But the psychological , you know there are really people this sick in our world today kind of terrifying.
The story outline pretty much tells us the basics. Grace and Josh, both newly departed souls have assignments to capture Cam’s soul. Either for Heaven or Hell. Knowing what Cam is slated to become as an adult gives the entire outcome of this assignment a unique reader’s viewpoint.
I was captivated by this one. The decisions of Grace and Josh were entertaining to read. Sorta wished they had come together before they died so that Grace could have redeemed Josh through her influences and love. But it was charming to me just how often a demon did his best to protect an angel.
I have to give this one 5 outta 5. The pure hatred for a character I experienced while reading Soul Crossed just put it over the top on my rating scale.
I believe this one is worth your reading time and would recommend it. Since this is the first book in the Of Demons and Angels series – I am definitely looking forward to the next novel.
*I received an e-ARC of Soul Crossed from the publisher and NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. That does not change what I think of this novel.*
