It’s an enemies-to-lovers showdown between the cowboy who can’t trust and the cowgirl who won’t forgive.

Injured rodeo cowboy, Bo Kennedy, takes a job as a horse trainer at a Montana ranch. His skills training cutting horses are in high demand, but he’s holding out hope that his days of competing aren’t over. Then his first client arrives, desperate for help with her mare. One problem, she’s his ex.

When World Champion barrel racer Cassie Franklin needs a new horse quickly, her last hope to rebuild her career is to switch to cutting competitions. She brings her new mare to Juniper Falls Ranch, hoping the highly hyped horse whisperer can help. She’s stunned to see Bo. They haven’t spoken in five years after he wrongly accused her of sabotaging his horse when he saw her flirting with his fiercest competitor.

Working together seems impossible, especially as the chemistry still sizzles. Will one of them finally lower their guard and admit they were wrong?

Title: The Cowboy’s Comeback

My Rating:  4.5 stars

We return to the Juniper Falls Ranch, and Marietta, Montana (my favorite fictional small town), for Cassie and Bo’s romance, The Cowboy’s Comeback, the second title in the Juniper Falls Ranch series.  If you haven’t read the first title, Forever Cowboy, or the multi-author series that this one is a spin-off of, Montana’s Rodeo Cowboys… then, what are you waiting for?  They are all amazing stories of love, longing, and finding that perfect person for you.  It’s so easy to get caught up in this world.  I’d highly recommend any of those titles.

Cassie has lost her beloved competition horse.  She’s switched events and has a new horse, Storm, that she really needs to get up to speed on.  She’d thought that would be a straightforward round of learning Storm’s ways, building trust between them with a team of specialists at this ranch.  What she never could have imagined was that her ex, the man who’d accused her of such a heinous crime against him and his horse, would be the “horse whisperer” that had been assigned to her.  She knew the truth of that awful day, the day Bo couldn’t trust her, the day her world fell apart.  Unfortunately, it seems that her heart doesn’t remember the pain of loving this man… now, what is she supposed to do about that!?

Bo has been working at Del and Beth’s ranch for a few months.  His injury is temporarily keeping him from competition, and for now, his talent as a so-called “horse whisperer” is in high demand here.  The absolutely last person he ever thought he’d run into here was Cassie.  Maybe, back then, his response had been over-the-top, yet he’d had his reasons (at the time).  Now, they’ve got to work together to bring Cassie and Storm together as a competition powerhouse… while navigating a complicated past.

I loved everything about The Cowboy’s Comeback.  Cassie and Bo are probably two of the most stubborn characters I’ve come across in a while.  Not that they don’t have a reason for that.  Their breakup had destroyed them each in different ways.  If they can get beyond their past and focus on what could be their future, they just might find that being together is as natural as breathing.  Their story is well-written, engaging, so emotional, full of laughter one moment, tears the next, and always an underlying tension of their hearts knowing what their minds are still struggling against.  If that’s your kind of Modern Western Romance, then you’d love this one.  I’d highly recommend it, and am definitely looking forward to the next title in the series.

*I received an e-ARC of this novel from the author or the author’s team via Booksprout, and I sincerely thank them for their trust. I chose to leave a review to share my personal opinion about this book.*

Do you love anything (any story) that’s even slightly connected to Marietta, Montana?  Yeah, me too.  Be sure to visit our Marietta, Montana pages (this link to where this series is located – there are three pages :)) to catch up on the series that you might have missed over time.  It’s quite an amazing and diverse community, with happily ever after endings guaranteed.
