In theory, opposites attract. What happens when they combust?

Former Special Forces soldier Ryder Lea is ready to leave combat behind and return to his cowboy roots as a rodeo stock contractor. But before he can hit the open road, he owes a debt of honor in Marietta, Montana—one last promise to his fallen commanding officer. Community service at a local clinic should be simple…until he meets the sharp-tongued therapist who wants nothing to do with him.

Edison Martin doesn’t have time for charming cowboys with “aw-shucks” smiles. Her clinic is understaffed, her patients deserve real help, and Ryder reminds her of everything she’s lost. She needs competence, not temptation.

But Ryder tackles every task with humor and heart, making it harder for Edi to keep her walls up. As sparks fly and old wounds resurface, they’ll have to decide if love is worth the risk—or if some scars run too deep.

We return to Marietta, Montana, once again for the fourth title in the Cowboys of Honor series, The Montana Cowboy’s Call to Serve.   Be aware that this is a reissue of The Cowboy Charm, in case you already have that one in your personal library (a mishap I’ve made myself and now mention in reviews).

Ryder is heading to Marietta to fulfill one of his deceased commanding officer’s list of things to do that went undone after his death.  All the guys have picked something from Jace’s list to complete to honor their friend, and Ryder has chosen a community service commitment that will bring him far more than he ever expected.  Edison (Edi) has come to Marietta to work at a local clinic.  She’s trying her best to push on with life after a devastating loss and the implosion of her marriage.  Now, free of commitments, Edi has no intention of giving in to the temptation of a cowboy with a charming sense of humor and a heart that listens, even to things one isn’t actually saying.  But here Ryder is, doing community service at the clinic, charming her clients, and somehow finding his way beneath those walls that she’s built around her heart.  They could see a happy future together if they took a few risks, let down their protective walls, and acknowledged the connection growing between them.

I enjoyed revisiting Ryder and Edi once again.  Their story is well-written, emotional on so many levels, filled with tears and laughter, and accepting the past while moving forward.  Neither has had what anyone could call an easy life, yet together they fit, and that is easily made evident to us as we follow their growing attraction.  I would not hesitate recommending their story or any of the stories within this series; they are all engaging, believable, and guarantee a happy future.

*I received an e-ARC of this novel from the author or the author’s team via Booksprout, and I sincerely thank them for their trust. It is my choice to leave a review giving my personal opinion about this book.*
