This cowgirl can tame any beast. Cowboys aren’t so easy…
A born caretaker, former bronc rider Beth Dawson finds purpose as the animal wrangler for the Grit and Grace Rodeo Roughstock Company she started with friends. The only bur under her saddle is the know-it-all ranch manager who wants to be in control. She’s been there, done that. But when a feral dog needs to be brought to heel, she steps in, determined to save the dog and the ranch’s livestock.
Ranch manager Justin Chadwick owes the Halliday family everything, and he takes his role at the A Bar H ranch seriously. But having to deal with the beautiful optimist who views every living creature as a potential pet to nurture is almost more than he can bear. Animals are money on the hoof and must be protected so when a feral dog threatens the bred heifers representing the ranch’s future, he must put his attraction aside and go toe-to-toe with Beth.
Forced to work together, will these two find a middle ground …never mind fall in love?

Title: The Cowboy’s Undoing

My Rating: 4.5 stars
The Cowboy’s Undoing is the third title in the Grit and Grace series, this time featuring Beth and Justin as an animal whisperer and the ranch manager lock heads… and maybe hearts with a happy future ahead if they can just get out of their own way.
Justin believes there is a feral dog on the ranch property threatening the bred heifers that are the actual future of the Grit and Grace Rodeo Roughstock Company. Beth disagrees, believing the dog is an abandoned pet, and sets out to find it and retrain the dog. While they’ve worked together, they each have kept their distance, even if there is an underlying curiosity about each other. Mostly, though, they butt heads as their approach to the ranch’s animals is far different. With the attacks on the bred heifers increasing, Beth and Justin will spend some serious time together watching over the cattle long into the nights. They’ll discover a lot about each other as they share histories, and perhaps, begin to acknowledge that attraction they’ve been denying.
The suspense aspect of this series is highlighted as it’s discovered that the so-called feral dog is not the culprit that Justin thought he was… more like a hero on four paws.
I enjoyed The Cowboy’s Undoing by Leah Vale so much. It’s a well-written romance with emotional moments, frustrating times, a closer look into friendships, and the continuing mystery that has plagued the ranch from the beginning. It was an enjoyable journey watching Beth and Justin go beyond their hesitation to see the true value of each other as they head for their happy ending. I’m having fun with this series, and isn’t that the entire point of getting lost in a fictional world?
I own a Kindle edition of this title.
